The subject machine elements revolve around pure mechanism instead of
constructive mechanism. A machine is a series of mechanism but mechanism is not necessarily a machine. Machine parts needs to be rigid bodies during operation. Transmission of power in a mechanism can be done directly and indirectly. To compel a body to move in a definite path, it must be paired with another whose shape is dependent on the nature of relative motion of the two bodies. The selection of materials for a machine falls under the discipline of constructive mechanism. A machine is an assemblage of parts interposed between the source of power and the work, for the purpose of adapting the one to the other. Cranks, levers, bearings, journals, shafts, crosshead, cams, gears, screws, ropes, chains, belts, pulleys, wheels, keys, collars, cylinders, pistons, connecting rods and piston rods are forms of the parts of a machine. A frame is an example of a structure of a machine. The combination of a crank and conecting rod with guides and frame is a mechanism. A frame may be either fixed to the earth or moving relative to the earth, Intermediate connectors may be rigid, flexible or fluid. If an intermediate connector is rigid, it is called a link. Inversion of pair is the exchange of fixedness of an element with its partner. The 6th machine mentioned in the video "Incredible machine" is a street cleaner.
