activities include the cost of drinks/snacks at the Annual
Meeting during the test-item writing workshop and
meetings between TIWG and EAAG members.

Detailed budget requests will later be submitted to the

Certifying Examination Board Chair, Dalen Agnew.

Clinical Pathology:
The Test Item Editors Group (TIEG) needs to meet to
review/critique questions – an in-person meeting is
critical for question quality. Date, membership,
location, and cost to be determined. The TIWG co-
Chairs also do not have sufficient institutional funding
to attend each ACVP/ASVCP yearly meeting. If
attendance is required to facilitate critical meetings and
workshops, funding support will be sought. See
important note below under annual calendar section. If
timelines are changed in 2020, the Test Item Editor
Group may meet in fall 2020 ahead of or at the
ACVP/ASVCP Annual Meeting rather than a separate
meeting in spring 2021. This would move the funding
request for this meeting to the 2020 budget and
remove it from 2021.

Anatomic Pathology:
The Test Item Editors Group (TIEG) convenes with as
many people as physically possible in one location, but
we have not yet asked for funding for people to travel
to this and Zoomify was a useful way to involve people
remotely. This September we will be including all
writers in the editing process – and will see how well
that works remotely for the majority of participants.
However, for question quality, it is essential that a core
contingent is there in-person, and in the future, this
should include TIWG Chairs and anyone involved in
compilation. At this meeting, at a minimum, funding will
be required for food and drinks.

Action items for Council:

Support the work of the TIWG and Chairs financially
and with flexibility as the TIWG process develops and
communications occur.

2. Define and disseminate key terminology as it relates to clinical, pathology, research and biomedical
informatics for efficient and enhanced diagnostic and mechanistic interpretations facilitating prognosis
and treatment.
3. Review and update veterinary pathology training best practices to include key/core competencies for
future practice, incorporating practices from human medical pathology and informatics.
4. Ensure standardization of training in key/core competencies for future practice by institutions,
individually or through collaboration.
5. Create online resources, webinars and workshops with assessments for proficiency of key/core
competencies for future practice.
6. Establish a fellowship/certificate program for trainees and career pathologists in these key/core
competencies for future practice (will also facilitate goal 3).
7. Assimilate testing of key/core competencies for future practice into our certifying examination.

Meeting program.
9. Evaluate open source, decision-support software and their applicability for veterinary pathology.
10. Investigate best practices for utilization of artificial intelligence in veterinary pathology.
11. Engage members at all stages of their career.
12. Develop and execute a comprehensive advancement strategy.

Success Indicators:
▪ Defined the future practice of veterinary pathology.
▪ Identified key/core competencies required by trainees and career pathologists for the future practice
of veterinary pathology.
▪ Incorporated proficiency in key/core competencies for the future practice of veterinary pathology into
maintenance of certification and life-long learning by all members.
▪ Promoted implementation of decision-support software to provide preliminary interpretation of
veterinary microscopic samples, thereby facilitating integration of diagnostic and mechanistic data to

engine as an enduring component
GOAL 4 of ACVP’s mission.

Objectives:
1. Create a framework and the necessary infrastructure to enable collaborative research among ACVP
members and external collaborators in areas that advance veterinary pathology and biomedical
research.
2. Expand organized ACVP advancement across fundraising, entrepreneurship, and marketing and

revisions would enable efficient execution and accomplishment of strategic initiatives.

Actions:
1. Develop and widely disseminate position statements and/or white papers that clearly articulate the
critical role of veterinary pathologists in biomedical research.
2. Identify members affiliated with funding agencies.
3. Implement an intramural funding mechanism for members, decided by members.
4. Establish an open source repository of veterinary pathology informatics data for the promotion of
peer review and collaborative research.
5. Integrate and coordinate advancement strategies among key Committee Chairs, Council and the
