It’s said that electronic engineering is a really heavy career, so much abstract and only for people so much
intelligent. This is not true in all senses. It is true that is hard, but it is not problem if you are really compromise
to work and study hard when is necessary, and looking for the way to be better. The other thing is that most of
career or profession has its abstraction, so it is not strange to see that, the problem is when you do not make an
effort to understand that abstraction. And is completely false only intelligent people can study electronics,
because anyone with the motivation can do it, different you become very intelligent in the process. Most of
comment against electronics are because people see the beauty from the complex side or they try to study it
thinking they will know how to apply it from one day to other, when electronics is about effort, love, and desire
of doing great things.

other fields.

Great advances in society was made by great electronic engineers like you could be, and for this reason we are

Are you passionate about the latest technology and want to help your planet become healthier? Yes, your
planet, it means rivers, seas, oceans, forests, animals… If the answer is affirmative, why not consider a degree
in environmental engineering? Recent polls show environmental engineering degrees are constantly growing
in popularity as more international students are searching for diverse new study options in universities
worldwide. If you take a moment to think about it, the water you drink, the weather you perceive, the air you
breathe; the work of environmental engineers literally surrounds you; that’s why by doing your part in saving
our planet as an environmental engineer, you’ll be a regular superhero!

As an environmental engineer, you will face a lot of the challenges like growing population (our planet is
becoming more crowded, today the total population is about 7400 million of people, just in China there’re
1300 million of people), and to satisfy the needs of those population while preserving the carrying capacity of
our ecosystems and biological and cultural diverse. “The engineer provides system and component design,

engineers will be tremendously important in fulfilling the demands of energy, food, water, waste disposal and
environmental cleanup ranging from small communities to large urban areas, mostly in the third world (like
Colombia). If environmental engineers are not ready to fulfill such demands, who will?

In Colombia, there are many things to do as environmental engineering, because our country presents serious
environmental issues. First that all Colombia is a megadiverse country from its natural land terrain to its
biological wildlife. Decades of civil war and political unrest has impeded biological and environmental research
in Colombia. We’re facing deforestation, sanitation difficulties, soil erosion, floods, water quality damage,
besides the government is negligent with all of us. For example, is sad what’s happening
nowadays in Chocó, they don’t have drinking water and they live in the second most rainy place in the world!
Unbelievable! Our institutions need people with good formation in engineering and environmental problems,
also with open mind and critic, without scared. If you fill these requirements, you’re welcome in this exiting
experience and surely our planet will be better. Together we can replicate successful models of environment
preventions that exist around the world.

In environmental engineer, one of the main topic is Climate Science, the idea is to study weather conditions
over a period of time. Some studies have shown the variability in weather conditions since industry revolution,
creating something called “Global warming”. The signs of global warming are everywhere and more complex
than climbing temperatures. But, Donald J. Trump, a billionaire who against all odds becomes President of the
United States last November 8th, wrote in twitter in November 2012 “The concept of Global Warming was
created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive”. Scientists are in
overwhelming agreement that the climate is warming because human are pumping massive quantities of
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, primarily by burning fossil fuels for heat, electricity and transportation
(CNN News). Every day in environmental engineering we work very hard treating or solving a little bit these
problems trying to preserve life in our planet, yes, in our planet, because today we can’t live in mars or Jupiter.
Mr. Trump is blind if he thinks we live equal as he lived seventy years ago when he was born. So, Mr.
President, are you still not understanding that?

Finally, is very important to say that is not necessary to be an environmental engineer to protect our world,
even if you are a doctor, teacher, journalist, nurse, lawyer, politician, economist, farmer or a woman or man in
the street; there are thousands of simple actions you can do as a good citizen. Fortunately, the environment is
high on the agenda for the clear majority of people. Individually, all good citizens should adopt the habit of
reduce, reuse and recycle, in this order. So many things can now be recycled; the actual rubbish we throw
away should be minimal. But there are plenty of other ways to show that you care about the environment and
citizenship is high in our agenda; many people are concerned with driving down their carbon footprint (not
using the car, taking public transport, promoting the use of bike). Although businesses have a responsibility to
be environmentally friendly, but they need their employees to cooperate, because if everyone who does
something good for the environment tells one other person, then differences will soon be seen. If everyone
will make the same small changes, then bigger leaps forward would soon be made.
