Political features of Pakistan

As elsewhere in the world, political culture in Pakistan has long had unseemingly dimensions. The
political culture of pakista dates back to the prestige and sohpjhistciated personality of Quaid azam who
was the chief political leader to mobilize the political efforts for continuous 7 years and the result was
Pakistan independence. After his death Liaquat ali khan found it a difficult task to stabiikize the then
political culture. His assisanication catalyzed several political stabilities with governments changing one
after other. Incessant politica; stability led iskander mirza to disbend the assemblies and declare martia
law along woth abrogation of first indigenous constitution od 1956. His successor Ayub khan came up
with the new constitution and for tge decsde militsry ryles was imposed and all political parties were
disband. The country was swinging under military rule for almost adecade.

Later yahya khan dissolved one unit and arranged fair and free elections in 1970, the results brought
continuous political crises wgen Bhutto in west Pakistan rejected to form a new constitution under
discussion of Sheikh mujjeb who wanted regional autonomy in east Pakistan. And the country faced the
worst that could happen to any vountry in the contemporaru history, Indias intervened militarily in east
Pakistan, the real Pakistan broke up with tragic dismemberment, 16 december 1971, east Pakistan
proclaimed itself independent state of Bangladesh. Bhutto adopted constitution of 14 august 1973,
under his rethoric socialist, populist and nationalist approach. Though he put country on democratic
path but failed to overcome political crises despite many opportunities.

Today political conduct of country leaders have fostered an environment tor ender any meaningful
political conversation impossoble.

Changing global dynamics have created many challenges for already fragile economy of Pakistan. But
our political culture is molded with the harsh tone that is used by politicians to criticize their opponents
rather than articulating their own positions. This has bebased the plotical ground and eroded public trust
in leaders.

Number of factors have changed plotical culture of Pakistan:

1. First and foremost, political parties no longer seem to represent any set
of ideas or have coherent programmes — except as platitudes.
2. The proliferation of the broadcast and social media has in recent years
made numerous information platforms available to leaders and their
followers to communicate and direct polemics against opponents
eg;Talk shows provided adversarial settings, accentuated polarised
debate and preferred heat over light in exchanges between public
representatives.
3. Another factor that might explain the changing political culture is rising
anger in society. This has been the consequence, over time, of rising but
dashed public expectations and frustration with the inability of
successive governments to meet their demands and aspiration
