Sentences,
➢ Incomplete sentence - missing
Clauses &some elements from full sentence
➢ Example (No verb): Cake with
Fragmentschocolate.
➢ Fix: Everyone likes cake with
chocolate.
➢ Usually you can connect it to a
nearby clause to fix it. Check if it’s a
complete thought.
Dependent & Independent Clauses

➢ Independent clause: Has a subject


and verb and forms a complete
thought

➢ An independent clause can be a


sentence or be a part of another
sentence

➢ Example: I like chocolate cake.


Dependent (Subordinate) Clause

➢ Noun: Acts like a noun. Example:


The teacher of grammar.
➢ Adverbial: Plays role of an adverb
(modifies a verb)
➢ Example: The store closed after
dark.
➢ Relative: Adjective clause that
describes the noun
➢ Example: The event is great.
