Macbeth – Lady Macbeth

In Macbeth, the relationship between Lady Macbeth and her husband is not only
damaging but is also toxic to those around them. Throughout the sequences of
the play, lady Macbeth is depicted as a head-strong ambitious woman who
challenges her husband's masculinity in order for him to commit actions in order
to gain power. In Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Lady Macbeth shows how her
sociopathic behavior shaped the story through her use of manipulation used to
coerce Macbeth. During the beginning of Macbeth , she used her twisted mind to
convince her husband to murder, making him believe that it was the only way he
could get what he wanted. But as the play developed and the murders started to
increase, Lady Macbeth started to question whether or not they were necessary.
Sadly, though possibly justifiably, she ended up committing suicide after her
constant questioning of the murders drove her to insanity. Lady Macbeth was an
unemotional person who only cared about what she could gain.

Doctor Faustus – Faustus

Doctor Faustus is a brilliant man, he seems to have reached the limits of natural
knowledge. Faustus is a scholar of the early sixteenth century in the German city
of Witten burg. He is arrogant, fiery, and possesses a thirst for knowledge.

His restless intellect leads him to the acquisition of dark knowledge .Knowledge of
the secrets of the physical universe, as well as the forbidden art of magic and the
unlimited power and knowledge it promises. Disregarding God's authority, he
arrogantly imagines all the great and noble things he will accomplish with this
dark power. Faustus ends up selling his soul to the devil, he still has some
Christian qualities that he shows throughout the play. He is unable to embrace his
dark path wholeheartedly but is also unwilling to admit his mistake. A morality
play is the “conflict of the personified human soul with sin amid contending vices
and virtues, and ends in one of two ways, triumph or damnation” . This definition
explains the story of Dr. Faustus.
Doctor Faustus – Mephistophills

Mephistophills is the devil himself, who offers his services to Faust in the hopes of
winning the great man’s soul. He has a gentlemanly if antagonistic relationship
with the Lord God, acknowledging that, though he himself always wills evil, he
ultimately only contributes to the good which God ordains.

Mephistophills is a source of never-ending delight for Faustus. He brings the guy

women and wealth, enabling him to conjure the spirits of Alexander the Great
and Helen of Troy, and taking him on a spur of the moment, round-the-world
vacation. Mephistophills takes the doctor on a trip to the stars, just so he can
learn the mysteries of creation. That's some tour guide. It's no wonder Faustus is
so willing to sign over his soul to the devil in exchange for twenty-four years of
having Mephistopheles as his servant. Mephistophilis is an evil which is strong
only for those that bow before him and are preoccupied with the deeds of evil; he
admits before Faustus that he cannot overpower the old man because his faith is
strong.
