CHUT THAI

The traditional dress of Thailand, Chut Thai,


has come to know many variations over the
centuries. Its literal meaning is “Thai Outfit”
Suea Phraratahathan

For men, the traditional dress of Thailand is called Suea


Phraratchathan (“royalty-bestowed shirt”). It is a button-up
shirt, with an extended collar, long sleeves and a sash for
formal occasions.
Ruean Ton

Ruean Ton is one of the most casual and


straightforward outfits out of all the women’s dresses
amongst traditional dresses of Thailand.
Chakkri

One of the most famous and commonly worn


traditional dresses of Thailand, Chakkri is considered
elegant and formal attire.
Siwalai

Mainly worn during royal functions and formal


events, Siwalai is a one-piece garment made by
stitching two pieces together.
Boromphiman

This evening attire is fit to be worn to formal and


semi-formal functions. Similar to Siwalai, it too has a
skirt and a blouse sewn together.
Chitlada

Fit for daytime ceremonies, Chitlada comprises of a


long Sinh (sarong), worn with a blouse with five
golden buttons at the front.
Amarin

This evening attire is made up of brocaded fabric. The long-


sleeved blouse is usually broad and has a round neck. Known
for its textiles and accessories, this traditional dress in
Thailand does not require a belt to be worn with it. It can be
worn during royal events with the necessary royal ornaments.
Chakkraphat

Chakkraphat is considered very formal and worn


mostly during royal ceremonies. The name means
“emperor”, further adding on to the solemn
undertones of the dress.
Dusit

Dusit is a more westernised form of traditional Thai


dress and is worn during less-formal evening events.

Dern Ka La (Coconut Shell Shoes)

utilizes a traditional toy that is made from a pair of


coconut shells. The aim of the game is for players to
compete to see who can move fastest while standing
on the Dern Ka La.
Copter Mai Thai (Bamboo
Helicopter)

toy gained its present day name from a popular


Japanese anime character called "Doraemon".
Dod Nang Yang (Jumoing with Rubber
Band Rope)

game requires players to complete sequence of jumps


over a long rope made of rubber bands, which is held
by their opponents.

Sepak Takraw

essentially it is volleyball played without using your


hands and arms.
Muay Thai

uses the whole body as a weapon and a shield. The


fierce fighting style is thought to have been used by
soldiers and by the locals protecting their lands.
Longboat Racing

major events held to celebrate high water in several


riverside provinces.

Wat Arun

It is one of Bangkok’s famous and most unique


temples. Also known as the temple of the dawn.
Wat Rong Khun

A fairly new temple, it is quickly establishing


itself as Thailand’s must-see place. It is also
known as “White temple”
Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

The most famous market in Thailand. It draws


tourists to experience a different way of shopping
and see how trading was traditionally conducted in
the “Land of Smiles”
Kho Phi Phi

One of Thailand’s most visited group of Islands.


It is famous for being the setting of Leonardo
DiCaprio The Beach.
Phanum Rung

This temple sanctuary was built by Khmer


culture between 10th and 13th centuries as
dedication to the Hindu god, Shira.
Sukhothai Historical Park

This is the ruins of Sukhothai Kingdom in 13th and


14th centuries. Literally known as the “Dawn of
Happiness”

What to prepare?

The groom will have two gifts to prepare:


1. Gold jewelry
2. Dowry for the presents

-For the proposal, the parents of both parties will


meet. If the parents of the groom approve the bride,
they will ask her parents if they allow the marriage.
What to prepare?

-The groom will make merit to honor the bride’s


ancestors. He may give money to the temple or
release a captive animal.
-Monks will come and bless the marriage and
home

-After given the permission to marry the bride and


they have been blessed, the groom and his family
and friends should travel by foot to reach the
bride’s home.
What to prepare?

-When he enters the gates and present the family


members with envelopes with money

-Once he passed through the gates, the bride’s


parents bring her to give to him. At this time, he
will present the dowry
During the ceremony

-The couple sits or kneels next to each other with


their hands folded in a prayer position. An elder
leader will then place Mong Kol on their heads.
During the ceremony

-The Shell Ceremony takes place now. Guests will


pour Holy Water to the couple’s hands while giving
them advice
During the ceremony

-Some will do Sai Sin, their hands will be wrapped


together in a white thread. When the thread is torn,
the one with the longest piece has the greatest love.
