Relion 615 & 620 series

Ex1. PCM600 project startup exercise
Task overview

Complete basic steps of starting a new project.

Adding 615 and 620 into the project with empty configurations
Step 1.1.1 Create a new project.

– Start PCM600. Select File - New Project. Fill in the project name and
description to the dialog window. Click Create.
If you later want to rename a project, use the File – Open/Manage
project dialog. The project must be closed while renaming
Step 1.2.1 Create a new project structure.

– Construct the plant structure by adding Substation, Voltage level and

Bay objects into the project container. Objects can be adding from the
Object Types side menu

or by right clicking plant structure objects and selecting New – General.

Step 1.2.2 Create a new project structure.

After that structure should look like this:

If you do not see the Object Types in PCM600, select View - Object
Types
You can give your own names to the plant structure objects. To do this,
either right-click the object and select rename from the context menu,
or edit the caption in the Object Properties window.

If you do not see the Object Properties in PCM600, select View - Object
Properties
Step 1.3.1 Add and configure a protection relay.

– Add a relay to a project. You can either drag and drop the relay from
Object Types library OR use the context menu: right click on the Bay
element and choose New – Feeder IEDs – REF615.
If the needed relay is not listed in the context menu, it means that the
corresponding connectivity package is not installed. Connectivity
packages might be installed from Update manager tool
Step 1.3.2 Add and configure a protection relay.

Once you have selected the relay REF615, the Configuration Wizard will
guide you. The communication setting window opens as soon as the
relay is placed.
– Select the option: Online configuration and go Next
Step 1.3.3 Add and configure a protection relay.

The relay protocol shall be IEC 61850

– Click Next.
Step 1.3.4 Add and configure a protection relay.

– Select Rear port (X1/LAN).

– Check the correct IP address of your relay from the training material
document you have received (IP_GOOSE_SV_Settings_615&620.txt).
Type the IP address to the IP address field. Then click Next.
Step 1.3.5 Add and configure a protection relay.

You will see a confirmation window informing that the communication

has been defined.
– Click Next to proceed forward.
PCM600 will automatically read order code from the relay and will show
it on the next page

– Click Next
Step 1.3.6 Add and configure a protection relay.

– Select Empty configuration, because later you will create

configuration from scratch.

– Go Next
Step 1.3.7 Add and configure a protection relay.

When adding a relay in the project you need to select IEC 61850 edition.
If there are already other relays in the project, the currently selected
edition will be picked automatically.
In real life project check IEC 61850 edition preferences from system
integrator/SCADA engineer because this option is mainly related to
vertical communication
– Choose “Edition 1“ in this training

– Go Next
Step 1.3.8 Add and configure a protection relay.

After this, the summary window will be displayed.

– Click Finish
Step 1.3.9 Add and configure a protection relay.

– Add new Bay element under Voltage level

Step 1.3.10 Add and configure a protection relay.

– Add REF620 relay with Empty configuration into the project under the
new Bay in a same way as for REF615. Check again the correct IP
address of your REF620 relay from the training material document you
have received (IP_GOOSE_SV_Settings_615&620.txt).
