Respiratory protection

Respiratory safety encompasses a wide range of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as breathing
tubes, full face or half mask respirators, powered respirators, protective hoods, disposal face masks,
scanners, cameras, and so on. Adequate instruction on how to use the equipment is still necessary.For
working around vast quantities of gases, powders, ashes, or vapours, this form of PPE must be worn.

Hearing protection

Living in an area of elevated sound waves necessitates the use of hearing aid devices. Hearing safety
should not only be appropriate for the operating environment, but it should also offer a degree of
grooming and comfort to the consumers. It is a safe idea to provide staff with a variety of protectors and
then encourage them to choose the ones that best serve them.

Examples of hearing protection equipment:

• Earplugs and defenders;
• Noise meters;
• Communications sets;
• Acoustic foam.

Foot protection

Foot safety equipment is intended to shield the feet and legs from a variety of threats, including high
temperatures, grinding, piercing, falling, slashing, chemicals, and energy. It is normally used while users
are engaged in building tasks, operating in extreme cold or heat, working with chemicals and forestry, or
manually carrying heavy items.
As examples of foot protection equipment can be pointed out the following ones:
Safety boots and shoes;
Anti-static and conductive footwear.

Body protection

Usually, body protection equipment is required in the following cases:

• For protection against weather conditions when working outdoors;
• Ensuring the high-visibility of users when they work in areas where there is a mixed vehicle (e.g.
bikes, motors, cars and busses) and pedestrian traffic;
• For users’ protection against extreme temperatures;
• Ensuring protection against entanglement, drowning, chemical contamination, etc.

Examples of body protection equipment:

• Life jackets;
• Clothing for specific weather conditions;
• High-visibility clothing;
Harnesses, and others.

Height and access protection

This form is highly specialised, and users are normally required to go through extensive testing before
they are able to use it. A responsible individual must check the height and access control equipment on
a regular basis to ensure that it is still suitable for use and that the health and welfare of users is not
jeopardised in any way.
As examples of height and access protection equipment can be mentioned in
the following ones:
• Fall-arrest systems;
• Body harnesses;
• Lowering harnesses;
• Rescue lifting;
• Energy absorbers, and others.
