NAME 321 (Finite Element Method for Ship Structure), Spring 2021
Course Teacher: Asst. Prof. Md Touhidul Islam
Class Test #3, Full Marks: 20
Time: 40 mins, Date: 21 Jun 2021

1. Mention the necessities of the isoparametric element in finite element analysis.

Write down a few characteristics of such element. (2 + 3 = 5)
∂u
2. Using the following relation, determine the expression for εY (= ∂Y ) (06)

3. How will you determine the stiffness of an isoparametric element? (03)

4. Write down the conditions which are to be met during a patch test for an
element to be valid. (03)

5. Suppose that you are dimensioning (scantling) a deck structure of a supply

vessel which is to be designed to withstand 10 t/m2 uniform deck loading
(UDL). But, your computing resources are limited! How can you make
the best use of your computing resources while doing the finite element
computation. (03)
