In the space below, please write a summary in 150 - 200 words or less, of the material you have
read.
`
The title of the novel that I have read “The Great Gatsby” written by Scott Fitzgerald. He

is a novelist, essayist, screenwriter, and short story writer. He is widely regarded as one of the

greatest American writers of the 20th century. The book were published in 1925 by the Charles

Scribner's sons. The Great Gatsby is his third novel that he wrote

The settings plays a significant role in the novel. It is set in and around New york in the

1920s, post-World War One, at a time known the Jazz Age, when prohibition was the order of

the day, but many people ignored the law and still partied hard.

The novel actually tells about the tragic story of Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire and

with Daisy Buchanan, a wealthy young woman whom he loved in his youth. Genre for this book

can be considered as a tragedy that revolves around a larger than life hero whose pursuit of an

impossible goal that blinds him to reality and lead to his violent death. The writer employs the

conventions of tragedy to explore character's relationship to fate and free will. Gatsby's tragic

flaw in his inability to wake up from his dream of the past and accept reality. His obsession with

his past relationship with Daisy lead him to a life of crime and deceit.
In the space below, please write a response to the material you have read.

I believe that unbridled passion isn’t always a good thing. Gatsby and Daisy’s brief affair

goes unnoticed for a time, until Tom catches Jay making eyes at his lover out in the open.

Perhaps if Gatsby had contained himself, the pair could have followed through with their

whimsical plans. But Tom’s passion, when let loose, has even more of a detrimental effect; his

red-hot emotion cause a quick to take a violent turn, as he hit and injures his mistress, Myrtle,

when she playfully teases him.

The novel has a lot of deep message that can be learned. I now think that there’s several

rules that needed to be follow in chasing our dream to become reality. There is no short cut in

success and good luck comes from an honest hard work. As we know the saying “What comes

around goes around” is true because good action results good outcome thus bad actions equals to

bad outcome.

background of the novel, setting plot and the story plot to summarize it all into one and do it in a
