    TRIBUTES ON MANDELA´S BIRTHDAY AS HEALTH STEADILY IMPROVES

    CELEBRATIONS were being held around the world today for Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday.
    Crowds gathered outside the Pretoria hospital where the former South African president and antiapartheid leader has
    been treated for a lung infection since June 8. President Jacob Zuma said Mr Mandela’s health was “steadily
    improving”. “We are proud to call this international icon our own as South Africans and wish him good health,” Mr
    Zuma said in a statement. South Africans were urged to mark the birthday by carrying out charitable acts.
