Reflective Analysis

collaboration on science, humanitarian,

the sharing of meaning through words
and symbols. According to the theorists
Herman and Reynolds (1994), this view
sees individuals as involved participants
in defining the social environment rather
than passive observers. Reality as a

device are both socioeconomic indicators

those who see technology as a sign of
contemporary life's coldness and
isolation. Meanwhile, the media creates
and disseminates symbols that serve as
the foundation for our collective view of
culture. Interactionist theorists are
interested in the collective creation of
meaning, which is a continuous
mechanism in which individuals
subjectively establish and interpret reality.
The media shapes our reality in a variety
of ways. For others, the people they see
on a computer may become a primary
source of frustration. There are a plethora
of hypotheses on how culture,
technology, and the media can develop.
From promoting leisure time to rising
competitiveness, functionalism sees
technology and media as important
contributors to societal peace. Conflict
scholars are most interested in how
technology reinforces inequality inside
and between societies. They also
examine how social media affects
people's lives.
