Research whlp week 1 and 2

1. – All text is center aligned and double spaced.

- Use times new roman 12pt font for the title page
- Do not try to make your own cover page decorative by using bold, underline, or creative
fonts.
- If the title is lengthy, pattern the title lika an inverted triangle
- The title should be bold except for the scientific name/s (scientific name/s, enclosed it with
a parenthesis.)
- If your paper has a subtitle, end the title line with a colon and place the subtitle on the next
line
- Center your name directly under the title
- Center your adult sponsor’s name with the course title (subject), and date, in three separate
lines.
- Do not put a page number on your cover page and do not include it in your page count total.

1. To write your rationale, you should first write a background on what all research has been done
on your study topic. Follow this with “what is missing” or “what are the open questions of the
study”. Identify the gaps in the literature and emphasize why it is important to address those
gaps.
2. Research questions are written in does questions while hypothesis is written in if/then/because
questions.
3. – make an observation
- Ask a question
- Form a hypothesis, or testable explanation
- Make a prediction based on the hypothesis
- Test the prediction
- Iterate: use the results to make new hypothesis or predictions
4. Independent variable- the values that can be changed or controlled in a given model or
equation. They provide the “input” which is modified by the model to change the output.

Dependent variable- the values that result from the independent variables.

Controlled variable- in scientific experimentation is an experimental element which is constant

and unchanged throughout the course of the investigation.
Week 3
1. Make an observation
2. Ask a question
3. Form a hypothesis, or testable explanation
4. Make a prediction based on the hypothesis.
5. Test the prediction.

ll.

It’s important because if your interests you you will enjoy making your study and it will be much
easier.

Week 4

1. The purpose of a literature review is to gain an understanding of the existing research and
debates relevant to a particular topic or area of study, and to present that knowledge in the
form of a written report. Conducting a literature review helps you build your Knowledge in your
field.

2. Provide foundation of knowledge on topic. Identify areas of prior scholarship to prevent

duplication and give credit to other researchers. Identify inconstancies: gaps in research,
conflicts in previous studies, open questions left from other research.

3. There are 5 key steps:

 Search for relevant literature

 Evaluate sources
 Identify themes, debates and gaps
 Outline the structure
 Write your literature review
6. Narrow your topic and select papers accordingly. Search for literature. Read the selected
articles thoroughly and evaluate them.Organize the selected papers by looking for patterns
and by developing sub topics. Develop a thesis or purpose statement. Write the paper.
Review your work.
