Zoom :

Introduction:
Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing service. Zoom was originally founded in 2011.
After the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, by February 2020, Zoom had gained 2.22 million
users in 2020. Zoom has more than 300 million daily meeting participants. On August 24,
2020, zoom experienced widespread outages for several hours before service was
restored. Its headquarters are located in San Jose, California. It is intended for businesses to
work remotely and offers a wide range of services .These include video and audio
conferencing, collaboration, chat, and webinars. Zoom has become extremely popular in the
world of business with over 20,000 companies choosing to use the service

Lack of confidentiality, stability and the rise of security Challenges:

Zoom conferencing has inarguably reached its peak by expanding services to the business
healthcare, and education sectors. The application has become the first choice for every
small and highly reputed organization because of its expandable and flexible service.
Although it seems a perfect solution for business needs, a few limitations seemed to have
emerged out as the concerning disadvantages of zoom app.
1. Zoom-Bombing:
Zoom-bombing to refers to intrusive activities by cybercriminals that interrupt the
ongoing zoom meetings. Hackers break in the middle of a conference place
obscene/offensive content on the user's screen. Many users connected via zoom
have reported this issue lately. “Zoominvaders” happen as a result of exposed
passwords. Hackers have found ways to obtain them so in some cases, the invader is
not anyone’s fault.
2. Data Leakages and Phishing attacks:
It has been reported that attackers can use the Zoom Windows client's group chat
feature to share links that will leak the Windows network credentials of anyone who
clicks on them. It happens because the Zoom client converts Windows networking
Universal Naming Convention (UNC) paths into clickable links.
3. Privacy shortcomings:
According to Business Insider, Zoom has been accused of passing on data to third
parties, including Facebook, without notifying the users. Vice reported that the iOS
version of Zoom's app sends analytics to Facebook even for users who don't have a
Facebook account, attacking the privacy of its users.

4. Zoom App Server reported to be linked to China:

Besides being accused of selling user data to Facebook, zoom conferencing app has
also been reported to be linked to Chinese servers hence failing to come up with a
contingency for geofencing practices. Zoom CEO Eric Yuan admitted to mistakenly
routing calls via Chinese Server sue to network congestion. This may also
compromise Americans' data as China, too, has faced some high-profile security
issues lately.
5. Performance and Reliability issues:
 HD Video not Standard- Supports only 720p video quality and the video is
downgraded when opted to 1080p.
 Audio quality is random and involves a lot of cross-talks and glitches.
 Too Many subscriptions and Add-ons required-Most services require an
additional subscription that has multiple tiers based on the number of
attendees. While many of the starter plans are fairly priced, the larger plans
are higher.
 Lack of Comment Control-It lacks one very important feature, the ability to
delete inappropriate comments on the fly.
 Inconsistent cloud files sizes can potentially fail to capture and store the
moments of meeting which could be a risk in case of any issues upcoming in
the future.
 Zoom Crashing: There are a lot of issues on stability. Inability to update to the
latest version will cause the app to terminate abruptly.
 Delayed customer service and response from zoom- A service representative
may take 2 to 3 days to reach you with a suggestive solution.
