TIME LIMITS/MAINTENANCE CHECKS

1. Scope
A. This chapter provides the time limits and maintenance checks for the Model 500 airplane. It is
divided into several sections, each with a specific purpose toward providing information necessary
to establish inspection criteria. Refer to the Description section for detailed information concerning
each of these sections.
NOTE: In accordance with FAR 25.1529, Chapter 4, (Airworthiness Limitations) of this manual
is published as a separate document. Refer to Chapter 4 for those components having a
mandatory inspection and components replacement schedule. This chapter contains all
Chapter 4 requirements.

2. Inspection Requirements
A. Federal Aviation Regulations Part 91.409(e) defines the inspection requirements for turbojet
multiengine airplanes. The inspection requirements defined in this chapter are the manufacturer's
recommended procedures and are tailored to satisfy the requirements of Part 91.409(e) and (f)(3).
B. For airplanes registered in countries other than the United States, the procedures specified by the
Airworthiness Authority of that country should be followed.
C. All nondestructive testing procedures required in this chapter are defined in the Model 500 Series
Nondestructive Testing Manual. These procedures must be performed by personnel and at facilities
that have been certified by Cessna Aircraft Company. For details of certification program, refer to
the Model 500 Series Nondestructive Testing Manual, Part 1 General.
3. Description
A. Listed below is a detailed description and intended purpose of each section of this chapter.
B. Section 5-00-00, Time Limits/Maintenance Checks - General. This section provides a description
and purpose of each section of this chapter.
C. Section 5-10-00, Inspection Time Limits. This section provides a chart of letter codes used in
Inspection Item Code Numbers.
D. Section 5-10-01, Inspection Time Limits.
(1) This section lists, in chart format, all inspection and servicing requirements which must be
performed. Each page contains the following six columns:
(a) Revision Status provides the date that a given item was added, deleted or revised. A
blank entry in this column indicates no change since Revision 31 of this manual.
(b) New inspection requirements and changes to existing inspection requirements become
effective on the revision date of the change. Unless otherwise noted, compliance of
a new or revised inspection requirement must be accomplished no later than the
next scheduled interval of the changed item, following receipt of the revision. Unless
otherwise noted, an inspection in progress at the time of new revision becomes effective
may be completed, utilizing the inspection criteria in effect when the inspection was
initiated.
(c) Inspection Item Code Number is a seven-digit, alpha-numeric number permanently
assigned to a scheduled maintenance item. A given inspection item code number will
never change and will not be reused in the event the scheduled maintenance item is
deleted. The alpha character at the beginning of the code can be:
A - Indicates inspection requirement.
B - Indicates functional or operational test requirement.
C - Indicates a lubrication requirement.
D - Indicates a clean/service requirement.
(d) Inspection Requirements provide a short description of the maintenance item and are
listed in chapter order.
(e) Inspection Interval is an alpha code character, indicating the frequency of the item. The
frequencies corresponding to each code are listed in Chapter 5-10-00.

(f) Applicable Phase(s) indicates the applicable inspection phase currently containing the
inspection item.
(g) Applicable Zone refers to the physical location(s) in the airplane affected by the item.
Most functional and operational tests do not list a zone but instead list a code which
indicate special conditions required to perform the test. The codes and conditions are
as follows:
ENG - One or both airplane engines to be running.
AUX - External source of electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic power or a combination
of these. Airplane engine power sources should not be used for these tests.
NOTE: It is possible to perform many of the tests in the AUX category using the
airplanes battery power. However, it is not recommended due to the power
drain on the batteries.
BAT - These tests must be performed with the component powered by the airplanes
batteries or the batteries built into the individual component in the case of the standby
gyro, ELT or other components with internal battery power.
LAB - Used when special equipment which requires that the component be removed
from the airplane and taken to a place equipped to perform the check or calibration.
FLT - Test is to be performed during a flight.
(2) Primary purpose of the Inspection Time Limits section is to provide a complete listing of all
inspection items in an order that allows easy access for the information listed previously. This
section is not intended to be utilized as a guideline for inspection of the airplane.
E. Section 5-11-00, Component Time Limits. This section provides a list of overhaul or replacement
intervals for components in chapter order. These requirements are not listed in the 5-10-01
Inspection Time Limits section. The component overhaul or replacement criteria must be utilized
as a guideline for determining proper action regarding the components listed. These requirements
must be worked into the continuous inspection program to provide a complete inspection program.
F. Section 5-12-00, Continuous Inspection Program. This section outlines the continuous inspection
program which is Cessna Aircraft Company's recommended inspection program. The program is
divided into five primary phases which cover all inspection requirements up through the 1200-hour
interval inspection items. The remaining phases cover inspections which are at intervals other than
what the five primary phases cover. Refer to the Continuous Inspection Program section for a more
detailed description of the Continuous Inspection Program.
G. Section 5-50-00, Unscheduled Maintenance Checks. This section includes inspections and checks
which may be required due to special or unusual circumstances and do not have regular repetitive
intervals for accomplishment.
