BIOENERGY & RENEWABLE ENERGY

 
Biogas

Energy sources are developed today is bioenergy availability is a bundant, easy to obtain, and can
be updated quickly. In general, the use of biomass as fuel is biomass that has low economic value
or the result of extraction of primary products (El Bassam and Maegaard 2004).

Indonesia has a large number of livestock as biogas raw materials, including 13 million dairy and
beef cattle, and about 15.6 million livestock equivalent to 1 million units of household biogas
digester (2.3 million BOE).

The Company’s strategic action of business diversification in the bioenergy industry shows the
company’s enthusiasm and professional accomplishment in facing the dynamics of business.

Biofuel

Development and use of biofuels, for the first generation biodiesel carried out in Indonesia by
utilizing raw material sources, such as: oil palm is successful.

The mandatory biodiesel has increased from 10%, in 2013 to 15% in 2015 and to 20% this year.
The government will make it mandatory for biodiesel to have a blending of 30% by 2025, while
B50 and B100 are still under development testing (several trials conducted by the Ministry of
Agriculture and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) have been successful).

Whereas for the development and use of first generation bioethanol sourced from raw materials
of molasses and sugarcane, it has stagnated due to expensive production costs and high prices of
raw materials. In accordance with the mandatory use of bioethanol, Indonesia is currently
entering E5 stage and in the following years it is planned to enter the E20 stage.

The company in this case participates in developing biofuels by using alternative biodiesel raw
materials sourced from other raw materials, such as : Reutaelis trisperma and Jatropha curcas
which are environmentally friendly, sustainable and in accordance with domestic and foreign
market demands.

The company also focuses on developing second generation bioethanol by utilizing cheaper
alternative sources of raw materials, such as: Miscanthus sp. and Arundo donax with superior
technology, environmentally friendly, sustainable and market-acceptable. The development of
second generation bioethanol certainly cannot be separated from the role of investors to jointly
take advantage of wide-open and very promising market opportunities.
