1. WHAT IS OBE?

Spady described Outcome-based Education or OBE as the reorientation

in the educational system towards what is essential for all students to be successful
at the end of their learning experiences. This primarily entails the identification of
what is important for the learners to be able to do so that the curriculum, instruction,
and assessment are organized.
In other words, OBE is a student-center model designed to meet the
needs of every student. As a teacher, it is our primary duty to create a learning
environment that supports the students learning process. The teacher also needs to
know and identify the types of students that they are handling to be able to give
them knowledge and skills through different learning activities that is suit their needs
and capacity. In that way, the teacher can achieve the desired learning outcomes
because the learning activities are appropriate for the students and the learning
process between the student and the teacher becomes more meaningful.

2. BRIEFLY DISCUSS THE CHANGE OF DIRECTION AND FOCUS FROM

TRADITIONAL TO OBE.

For the past years, teaching styles have changed significantly. We were
used to the traditional way of delivering education. It repeats the boring way of
teaching-learning process through recitation and memorization techniques. It does
not provide any chance for students or don’t let the students develop new skills
which might be useful for building their careers. In a traditional approach of
education, teachers are more focused on completing the curriculum with the given
time frame rather than innovating and it is very dependent on theoretical aspects of
learning. That is why many educators find a way to provide quality education for
every student in this new era.

Right now, Outcome Based Education or the OBE System is being widely
used by many learning institutions around the world. The OBE curriculum is
designed according to the needs of the students that’s why it is a student-centered
type of education. The teachers or the educators are more focused on helping the
students to develop new skills which are essential in building their career.
3. BRIEFLY EXPLAIN THE FOUR (4) PRINCIPLES OF OBE.

 Clarity of focus

It is a process of teaching wherein the teacher should give attention and

focused on what they need students to know and understand for them to be able to
do the given activities. The teacher should help the students to develop the

knowledge, skills, and personalities that will enable them to achieve the intended
outcomes that have been clearly articulated.

 Designing down

This means that starting from the very beginning which is the crafting of
the curriculum it must be clearly stated and clearly defined what outcome is intended
for students to achieved at the end of the learning process or activity. With that, the
desired end result will be achieved and the learning of the students will become
more meaningful.

 High expectations

In every activity or learning program, the teacher must set and establish
high and challenging standards to encourage the student to participate and
collaborate on what topics or subjects they are going to learn. In that way, the
students are guided by the teacher on what they are going to do by setting high
standards to meet their needs.

 Expanded opportunities

Not all students can learn and catch up with the topic being discussed to
them by the teacher. That is why there is a need for the teacher to work hard to
provide expanded opportunities for all students. But, if the students were given
opportunities to learn the topics that are suitable for their learning styles then they
can achieve high standards that are set by the teacher and the school.
