POLYVINYL ALCOHOL SOLUBLE FILM

We use plastic bags in our daily lives as a medium to transport goods such as foods, powders
and waste. But have we ever speculated where the plastic goes after it reaches its limit of use?
The production and manufacturing of plastic bags affect the environment to different extents
depending on the method and resources used. In most cases, plastic bags manufacturers often
use high density polyethylene (HDPE). HDPE is non-biodegradable and can take centuries to
decompose. This material has many disadvantages to the environment.

As the years went by, more plastic bags have been produced, which means more HDPE
has been used. It is now believed that there are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris in the ocean.
Of that mass, 269,000 tons float on the surface, while some four billion plastic microfibers per
square kilometer litter the deep sea. Approximately 500 billion single-use plastic bags are used
by shoppers worldwide translating to a million bags every minute across the globe. This is highly
threatening especially for the marine creatures.

We’re providing this Polyvinyl Alcohol Soluble Film to be just like a plastic wrap which
could potentially replace the use of plastic bag in our daily life. Water pollution has been an
issue to our world for many years. Excessive plastic usage also contaminates the environment.
This led us to develop soluble film using Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVOH) which is harmless for our
environment and us.

It's edible, but how? That’s because Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVOH) contains specific
microorganisms that will cause it to degrade. Based on our research, solutions containing up to
5% Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVOH) are non-toxic. So, basically the water we drank isn't contaminated
by Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVOH). By utilizing this project, environment contamination especially
water pollution might decrease. It’s because the Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVOH) is harmless and
didn’t contain any hazardous chemical that would damage the water.
