Mind Mapping Learning Method for Memory

Education is a process of growing and developing as a result of individual

interactions with the social and physical environment, which occurs throughout human life
from birth to adulthood. And the teacher is a vital component in an education system as a
whole, which must receive the main attention, first and foremost, because the teacher really
determines the success of students, especially those related to the learning process. Fun
learning is learning both inside and outside the classroom using interesting learning
methods, which attract students' interest. attention, fun, and make students challenged in
understanding the material. In developing creativity, students are more enthusiastic in
learning; and student outcomes or performance improve. The method is the method used to
achieve the goals that have been set, so that the teacher cannot teach well if he does not
master the method properly. the development of appropriate learning models or methods
essentially aims to create learning conditions that create effective and enjoyable learning
conditions; so that students can achieve optimal learning outcomes and achievement.
Student learning outcomes are determined in three aspects, namely cognitive, affective, and
psychomotor. Cognitive is a term used by psychologists to describe all mental activities
related to perception, thought, memory, and information processing, which enable a person
to acquire knowledge, solve problems, and plan for the future. states that in Cognitive
Theory, learning is a process of obtaining, processing, storing, and remembering information
that is controlled in the brain.

One of the cognitive aspects that must be developed in cognitive development is

memory. Memory is a core element of cognitive development. Using memory, owned by the
individual, makes it possible to store the information received over time. Memory is also the
process of storing and gathering information in the brain and is at the core of learning and
thinking. Learning is the process of acquiring new information; and memory is the process of
storing that information. The combination of learning and memory is the basis of all
knowledge and skills. that short-term memory is a container, where information is processed
for interpretation. Information is assumed to enter into short-term memory, when it is
received by sensory memory. Similar to sensory memory, short-term memory has a limited
capacity and duration. In the learning process, the memory captured by students has a short
duration to be well received as an effort to process learning outcomes conveyed by the
teacher in class. Memory construction has seven aspects, including: explicit memory
aspects; declarative knowledge; taking; free acknowledgment; instruction reminder;
acknowledgment/reintroduction; and implicit memory. Explicit memory if the method used is
a direct memory test or in the form of implicit memory if the method used is an indirect
memory test. In contrast to the types of short-term memory and long-term memory, which try
to explain the human memory system, explicit and implicit memory are suitable to be used to
explain the process of revealing one's memory. In subsequent developments the term short
term memory was replaced by the term working memory. Working memory emphasizes the
current activity in the short-term memory process with the implementation control process in
place. This system is a system that regulates and controls the process of receiving and
storing information, both visual and audio.

One of the cognitive learning theories is information processing theory. Cognitive

learning theory considers in this research the process of obtaining, processing, storing, and
recalling information controlled by the brain. Cognitive learning theory also explains how
children use information to solve problems and make decisions. One of the learning methods
that can be used to improve students' memory is the mind mapping learning method. The
mind mapping learning method is divided into several steps, as follows: (1) pre and initial
learning activities; (2) core learning activities; and (3) closing activities and follow-up
learning. These three steps are carried out in one meeting. Learning using the mind mapping
learning method was carried out in eight meetings.

The application of learning with the mind mapping method is an explanation of all the
images on the mapping media to students by mentioning or describing the characteristics of
the images described. The use of mind mapping method can help students to remember the
information obtained. In addition, the mind mapping method provides a more realistic picture,
because students not only listen and imagine objects, but also see them. So that students
can easily understand the information presented. Mind mapping takes the form of radiating
outward from the center of the image using simple lines, symbols, words, and images that
are familiar to the child's brain. Long and boring information can be turned into colorful, easy
to remember, organized, and in line with the natural way the child's brain uses mind
mapping.

Mind mapping is a visual technique that can align the learning process with how the
brain works naturally. Several studies on short-term memory, using either direct or indirect
tests, have been widely reported. However, it is done separately and is not related to noise.
The conclusions obtained are: (1) noise intensity affects short term memory, if the test
method used is direct test memory and the higher the noise intensity will cause a decrease
in short term memory; (2) noise intensity does not affect short-term memory, if the test
method used is indirect memory test; (3) the noise factor is new evidence that strengthens
the dissociation between explicit and implicit memory; (4) in noisy conditions, the short-term
memory search process tends to be serial or one item at a time, not parallel or all items at
one time; and (5) in noisy situations, the reaction time to respond to the positive probe is
lower than that of the negative probe. The use of mind mapping method can help students to
remember the information obtained. In addition, the mind mapping method provides a more
realistic picture, because students not only listen and imagine objects but also see them. So
that students can easily understand the information presented
