EDITOR'S NOTE

MrShingirai Rondozai

Welcome to the 2021 edition of the Tribute. This edition is very special in a number of ways. For
starters, this edition comes after a hiatus of two years. The hiatus was COVID-19 induced. Most of
our contributors were cooped up in many private homes across the country.

It is also the first edition since the College changed its status. Of course, during the COVID-19
induced lockdown, the College went on with its activities. Learning and teaching, albeit by
different methods, went on. Our hope is that you are going to share with us our hopes and
aspirations as you go through the Tribute.

The Tribute Committee is grateful to the Administration for the massive support. I would also like
to personally thank members of the Tribute Committee for their dedication and sacrifice as they
worked through the yearbook. Special thanks also go to Br Mario for his patience and generosity
with his time.

Good reading and viewing.

HEADMASTER’S REPORT

The ever-changing world has opened our

minds to not only provide our learners with
resources that bring out the best of their
potential but also take them through a
formation of men and women who are able to
transform the world and make an impact in the
lives of the disadvantaged.
Father Hans Kolvenbach SJ averred that
during their formation, students must learn the
gritty reality of this world into their lives so
that they can learn to feel it, think about it
critically, respond to its suffering and engage
it constructively. He further opined that they
should learn to perceive, think, judge, choose
and act for the rights of others especially the
disadvantaged and oppressed.

DOING EVERYTHING FOR GOD’S GLORY
At Saint Ignatius College, being a Catholic and Jesuit
School, the chaplaincy is not just an office or

support the apostolate of education, providing to
learners and staff spiritual and moral encouragement

FORTY SIX YEARS OF SERVICE!

On 15 June 2021 the College bade

farewell to one of the longest serving
members of the College. Mr
Christopher Nyamayaro joined the
College as a young boy on 1 July
1975 and retired on 30 April 2021. To
put it into context that is the period
when the armed struggle was just
beginning to intensify. He had Mr & Mrs Nyamayaro receiving their plaque from the Rector

worked in the College for a

continuous period of forty- six years.

At a farewell luncheon hosted in his

honour many of the speakers
mentioned his humility and respect
for those in authority despite his
advanced years and vast knowledge
of the College’s history. Speaking at
the luncheon , Father Daka SJ, the
Rector, joked that Mr Nyamayaro
should have very important survival
skills for him to have survived so
long in one job. Commitment!

The College presented Mr Nyamayoro

with a plaque by which he will
forever remember the College. At the
same function, the Rector advised Mr
Nyamayaro to be prudent with his
terminal benefits so that he and his
immediate family will survive
comfortably. Fare thee well Mr
Nyamayaro!

DISPENSARY

BY SR SALOME MATEKO CJ

The School Dispensary participates fully and is committed to the good health and wellbeing of learners. As
part of its Healing Ministry, provided is care that meets spiritual, social, physical and emotional needs of the
learners.
Assessment to detect early signs and symptoms of health problems is part of the routine. As we all know,
good health is a basic building block of human progress and economic growth. The same applies to learners
who cannot flourish without good health. Poor health does not only hinder good results, but it can be a
source of worry to both teachers and parents. We are grateful to the School Administration for the support
in providing the basic equipment and medicines necessary to ensure our learners are afforded good health
care.
The Dispensary provides Health services not only to learners but all staff who are in need. We are open
every day save for Wednesdays and Sundays.
