1. Why is it important for the engineer manager to acquire skills in organizing?


The engineer management need to acquire various skill in management, including skills in
organizing to increase productivity and ensure company goals are consistently met, and it help you
manage time, tools and resources to reach a goal. They help you work out what you need to do to
achieve your aims.

2. How may organizing be defined?


Organizing can be defined as a process that initiates implementation of plans by clarifying jobs,
working relationships and effectively deploying resources for attainment of identified and desired results
(goals).

3. What purpose do organizational structures serve?


The purpose of organizational structure is to help the organization work towards its goals. It
brings members of the organization together and demarcates functions between them. Also, it is a
system that outlines how certain activities are directed in order to achieve the goals of an organization

4. What must be the concern of the engineer manager when structuring the organization?
The engineering management must be concerned with deciding the nature of work and how it is
combined in job when structuring an organization

5. What is the purpose of the formal organization?


The purpose of formal organization is to realize objectives of an enterprise and is bound by rules,
systems and procedures, because in an organization everybody is assigned a certain responsibility for the
performance of the given task and given the required amount of authority for carrying it out.

6. What are informal groups? Why are they formed?


The Informal groups are those groups that get created spontaneously as soon as individuals start
interacting with each other. They are formed merely based on the personal interactions and common
interests.

7. What are the types of organizational structures? How may they be distinguished?
The type of organization are functional organization, product or market organization and matrix
organization. They may distinguish by properly matching their needs with the structure they use to
operate.

8. What is meant by “line authority” from “specialized staff”?


Line authority is a top-down approach to management where the decisions are made by the top
management and communicated to the lower level staff. Staff authority is the provision of advice and
other services to line managers.

9. Distinguish “personal staff” from “specialized staff”?


Personal Staff, the staff official as attached as personal assistant or adviser to the line manager,
while Specialize Staff, such staff act as the fountainhead of expertise in specialized areas.

10. What are committees? How may they be classified?
The committee is a formal group of person form for specific purpose. They may classified as Ad
hoc committee, short term purpose and have a limited life and Standing committee, a permanent
committee that deals with issue on an ongoing basis.
