1. Why is it important for engineer manager to acquire skills in organizing?

The engineer manager must learn a variety of management abilities,

including those required coordinating technological tasks. The inexperienced
manager will struggle in this intensely competitive atmosphere and will not be able
to lead his unit, or his business, to success. Organizational skills will help the
engineer managers to keep things straight. They make managing their workload,
schedule and the files easier. Being organized can also maximize the time leading
to more efficient and productive management. Time management is another
important type of organization and involves the organization of an engineer
manager’s planner. Time management helps an engineer balance their work and
personal lives and daily schedules.

2. How may organizing be defined?

According to Medina, organizing is a management function which refers to

"the structuring of resources and activities to accomplish objectives in an efficient
and effective manner." Structure what referred to as the arrangement or
relationship of positions within an organization. The result of the organizing
process is the structure. According to Business Jargons, Organizing is the second
key management function, after planning, which coordinates human efforts,
arranges resources and incorporates the two in such a way which helps in the
achievement of objectives. It involves deciding the ways and means with which the
plans can be implemented.

departments into organizations, and defining the system to effect coordination of
effort in both vertical (authority) and horizontal (tasks) directions.

4. What must be the concern of the engineer manager when structuring the
organization?
5.
The concerns that an anegineer manager should be mindful of include:
division of labor – determining the scope of work and how it is combined in a job,
delegation of authority which is the process of assigning various degrees of
decision-making authority to subordinates, departmentation which is the grouping
of related jobs, activities, or processes into major organizational subunits, Span of
control which is the number of people who report directly to a given manage,
coordination which is the linking of activities in the organization that serves to
achieve a common goal or objective.

6. What is the purpose of the formal organization?

Formal organizations are formed to achieve certain goals through the collective
work of the individuals who are its members. They rely on a division of labor and
hierarchy of power and authority to ensure that the work is done in a unified and

defined set of responsibilities, roles, duties, and authorities to whom it reports.

group belongs to the corporate hierarchy.

7. What are informal groups? Why are they formed?

There are times when individuals within an organization come together on

their own to create a group. The primary justification for belonging is friendship.
This team is referred to as an informal team. There is no a neither is it a formal
performance purpose nor is it a part of the formal organization. Informal groups
comes in handy in achieving of major tasks, especially if these tasks conform with
the expectations of the members of the informal group. The informal organization
is "vulnerable to expediency, manipulation, and opportunism." according to
Valentine. Its low visibility, Valentine added, makes it tough for management to
realize these perversions, and significant risk can be done to the company.

8. What are the types of organization structures? How may they be distinguished?

Types of organization structures include functional organization, product or

market organization and matrix organization. Functional organization is a form of
departmentalization in which everyone engaged in one functional activity, such as
engineering or marketing, is grouped into one unit. Product or market organization
refers to the organization of a company by divisions that bring together all those
involved with a certain type of product or customer. Matrix organization is an
organizational structure in which each employee reports to both a functional or
division manager and to a project or group manager.

organization's primary goal and mission. In a construction firm, the department that
negotiates and secures contracts for the firm is a line department. The construction
division is also a line function. Staff authority is a staff specialist's right to provide

committee.

AD hoc committee is the one created for a short-term purpose and have a
