Choosing Installation Sites
The wind turbine should be erected high and as far away from obstacles as possible in order
to get the highest wind speed. The soil quality of the installation site should be taken into
consideration. Loose sands, uneven or areas subject to weather damage are unsuitable for
installing the wind turbine. When selecting the locations, it is necessary to consider the
distance between generator and the electrical installation. The shorter the distance, the less
cable will be used. As a result, less energy will be wasted during the transmission. If the
distance is considerable , it is better to use much thicker standard cable for the transmission.

Step 2: Layout of Tower, Base & Anchor (as shown in the following tables)
Model 200W 300W 500W 1000W 2000W
Radius (m) 2.0 3.0 3.0 3.0 4.0

(long*wide*deep)
Size of side base (m) (long*wide*deep) 0.6*0.6*0.6 1.0*1.0*1.0
Table 1

Special attention should be paid to the following when laying out the base and anchor:
1. The connecting line of the two side anchors should be in parallel with the connection of two
pinholes on the tail edge.

www.joliet-europe.com
info@joliet-europe.com
4
2. Make sure the side of the tail edge with the screw thread faces the anchor.

3. The height of the anchor should be consistent with the height of the tower base.
The tension of fixing cables should be equal. Excessive or insufficient tension may lead to
the tower bending or even breaking while it is being erected.

Concrete foundations for the central base and anchor points

1. Following the layout illustrated above, dig the foundation holes. Please refer to the chart
above for the size of the holes.

2. C25 concrete should be used and allowed to set fully before installation begins. Four
anchor bolts should be installed according to the holes on the base. Make sure that they
match up with the holes in the base. Fix the base into the concrete using bolts (as shown in
diagram 2).

Diagram 2

3. Annular anchors need to be set 60°to 80°along the base direction, check the distance
between the four anchor hooks and the center of the base. The four anchors should be
horizontal (as shown in diagram 3).

Assembly of the tower and wind turbine

1. First of all, insert the main section of tower into the base, then insert the axis pin into the
base and finally insert the split pin. (As shown in diagram 4)

Diagram 4
2. Connect each section of tower one by one and place the tower on the supporting stand after
assembly. Attach the turbine head to the mast.

3. Pass the generator and dogvane cables through the tower.

www.joliet-europe.com
info@joliet-europe.com
6
4. Fix the running flange and tower flanges with bolts. Lift the turbine end of the mast onto a
support. Take care that the generator axis is facing upwards in order to install the blades.

5. Install the blades and cover the pressure pad (300W wind turbine has no pressure pad),
then screw up the bolts.

Keep the balance of blades when installing them. First, do not screw the bolts too tight,
adjusting the distance between two blades’ tips to be equal after screwing in all the bolts. (as
shown in diagram 5)

Diagram 5

Make sure: L1=L2=L3 (error allowed: ±5mm)

Use a torque wrench spanner to tighten blades’ bolts 200w - 300w=15Nm±1

500w - 1kw - 2kw = 30Nm±1 3kw - 5kw -10kw - 20kw = 50Nm±1

Note: These values are imperative. If they are not respected, we decline all responsibility for
possible damage to the blades or flange.

6. After adjusting the distance between the blades’ tips so they are equal, screw down the
bolts according to the order shown in diagram 6 (300W has three blade bolts, screw them
down one by one)

Diagram 6

7. Fit the nose cone.

8. (For 3kw and above 3kw wind turbine) fix the aviation plug on the generator into the socket
of the dogvane, and then install the dogvane. Special attention should be paid to the direction
of the dogvane. All five holes must be opposite each other.

Preparations before erecting the tower

(For 3kw and above 3kw wind turbine)

1. Attach the guy wires to the tower. The wire cable (on both right and left sides) should be
directly connected to the side anchor through a turnbuckle. The same length of cable should
be fixed behind, on the back anchor. Make sure the three wire cables are not twisted or
tangled.

2. Connect the two gin poles. (lever poles)

3. Fix the two thin wire cables on the two lugs of the gin pole, by running them through the two
lugs, and attach them to the pole after putting them through the upper pulley.

4. Insert the supporting pole into the tower. The wire guy cable on the two tower sides should
be fixed on the two side anchors, and then tightened up.

5. Fix the lower pulley on the front anchor. Fix one side of the longest thin wire cable on the
pulley of the supporting pole. Make sure the other side runs through the pulley, and then runs
through the upper and lower pulley. Finally, attach it to a hoist or tractor (as shown in diagram
7).

Diagram 7

Erecting the tower

1. Use the winch or tractor to slowly pull the tower upright. Stop at each 15°and check the
tension of guy cables on both sides. Any over tight or loose wire should be adjusted by
lowering the tower slowly and adjusting the length of the wire cable.
2. Go on pulling the bracing cord until the tower stands upright. Separate the working cord and
fix it on its anchor.
3. Check and adjust the strain of each fixed wire cable. If it is over tight the tower may bend, if
it is over loose the tower may be unstable and shaky. The tension can be fine tuned by
rotating the tensioning sleeve.

Wiring

1. Off-grid electric wiring (annex 1)

To ensure safety and easy maintenance, please install the switch and fuse according to
the diagram. Make sure the output voltages of the generator, battery voltage and input voltage
of the inverter are equivalent. A wire-connecting mistake will lead to the burnout of the
generator, batteries and inverter.
(Special attention to 3kw & above 3kw)
a. There are two cables connected to the generator head. One is the wind direction signal
cable, which has an aviation plug on the cable head. You need to insert this plug into the
www.joliet-europe.com

socket. The other cable is for the output of generator power and the controlling signal. There
are five lines with three thick wires for generator output and the other two thin wires for
controlling signal, which is classified as positive electrode and negative one. All should be
appropriately connected to the connecting poles at the back of controller.
b. The anemoscope should be installed on a house roof or in an open area, and must be
vertical. One end of the anemoscope cable should be inserted into the socket under the
anemoscope with the other end inserted into the appropriate socket.
c. Please refer to annex 2 for controller specification

2. On-grid electric wiring

All the models can be used in an on-grid environment, but only with adherence to local
regulations. An on-grid controller and inverter need to be purchased additionally.

Maintenance
Wind turbines may be operated under extremely harsh conditions, or encounter various types
of bad weather. Therefore, examination at set dates and maintenance are necessary in order
to keep the system operating properly.
Carry out the following check every three months:
1. Check to see whether the tension wires are too loose or too tight, and adjust them, in
particular in the initial stages of installation and post-gale.
2. Check whether the wires are damaged or loose. The joints must not be loose or rusted in
order to ensure electrical safety.
3. Maintain the batteries following the battery manual.
4. Before a storm, it is better to lay down the tower in order to avoid possible damage or loss.

FAQS
Why doesn’t my electro-equipment work after being connected to the inverter?
Check the dump energy. If there is not enough energy, the system will not operate normally; if
there is enough energy, please check the connecting wire between batteries and inverter is
correctly installed.

Why will the batteries not be charge?

Check whether or not the rotor is turning, the generator has no output at too high or too low
wind speed. If the rotor is normal, disconnect the generator's wire from the batteries and
controller (if there is an individual controller); check the output voltage of generator by a
multi-meter. If the voltage is normal please check the batteries are ok, otherwise check the
wire of the generator.
Why doesn’t the rotor turn at a normal wind speed?
If the output wire of generator is shorted, the rotor will not roll. Check the generator's wire after
disconnecting it from batteries.

How to lay the generator down?

www.joliet-europe.com
info@joliet-europe.com
12
(For 3KW & above 3KW)
1. First, stop the generator. Change the control mode to "manual", and then hold on the
"reverse" or "turn" to make the generator turn a 90 angle with wind direction

2. After the blades stop turning, disconnect the three generator lines.

3. Hold the "reverse" or "turn" control to make the generator face in the direction you want.

4. Reverse steps of installation to lay the generator down.

(For 2KW & above 2KW)

1. Disconnect the generator and controller. Disconnect the three output lines to prevent the
blades from running further.
1. Reverse steps of installation to lay down the generator.

Can I enlarge the batteries' capability to extend the available time for electrical appliances?
Enlarging the capability of batteries would make the batteries remain on half full state and
shorten their life.

Wind turbine (3kw & above 3kw) can not track wind direction automatically.
1. Check whether the anemoscope is broken or not. The simple way is to examine whether the
wind-speed indicator on the controller is working;
2. Check whether the dogvane is broken or not. The simple way is to unplug the dogvane from
controller, and you will see there are three lines on dogvane with marks . Measure the
resistance between and by multi meter, the resistance should be appropriately 1000Ω,
and then measure the resistance between and , along with and . The resistance
figure of these two( and + and ) should be equal to the resistance figure between
and .
3. If there is no problem with these two procedures, check whether the controller board has
been set on “auto”. Otherwise, it cannot trace the wind direction automatically. If you cannot
trace the wind direction, the reason for this is mostly insufficient wind speed. Only when the
wind speed is greater than 3m/s and sustained for more than 30 seconds, can you track wind
speed and change windward angle.

How long is the generator's lifespan?

It is 15 years under normal care. The guarantee of turbine and controller is 2 years, and the
inverter is 6 months from the date of purchase.

info@joliet-europe.com
13
Annex 1: Off-grid

www.joliet-europe.com
info@joliet-europe.com
14
Annex Two: Controller Specification 3kw & above 3kw

1. In its initial state, controlling board will indicate “auto” and “turn-on”. When the wind speed
reaches or surpasses 2m/s in this mode, the wind turbine will trace the wind direction
automatically. If the batteries are full or the wind speed is too strong, the turbine will furl
automatically until shutdown.

2. It is also possible to set the windward mode to “manual” and adjust wind direction by
pressing “forward” or “reverse” to change the direction. When the wind speed is too strong or
the batteries are fully charged, the turbine will not shut down automatically.

3. When it is not necessary to use the wind turbine, you can choose to press the shutdown
button to switch it off. Then the turbine will automatically face the wind and shutdown.

4. The system will continuously check the batteries’ voltage when the system is in its normal
power generating state. The system will alarm automatically when there is over voltage or
under voltage. In case of over voltage, a shutdown order will be sent out. These are the
factory settings: over-voltage alarm is set on 300V, alarm voltage cancellation 280V and
under voltage alarm 210V.

5. The function of the anemoscope is to check the real time wind speed. The states are
“working” or “non-working”. In working mode, the system will automatically face the wind and
generate electricity. There are “non-wind” and “over-wind” under “non-working” state. When
under “non-wind” state, the system shifts into sleeping state. When in “over-wind” mode, the
system will immediately send out a furling order. The system will go into shutdown.
Following table illustrates the settings on leaving the factory:

Model 3000W 5000W 10KW 20KW

Furl 90 degree shutdown 18m/s 18m/s 18m/s 20m/s
Table 5

6. The system will continually check battery voltage under normal operation state. In case of
over or under voltage, the system will alarm automatically and send out the shutdown order.

Note: the anemoscope should be installed on the 3KW and above 3KW wind turbine systems,
otherwise the system will not operate normally.
