Course Description
This is an undergraduate course which has a theoretical and clinical component (with
four credit hours), the theoretical component is in the form of 16 lectures that cover
basic topics in pediatric dentistry and are of one hour duration (once weekly). The
clinical component is in the form of clinical training (one 2-hour session every fortnight).

The course is designed to provide guidance to begin delivery of competent oral health
care for healthy children. Students are expected to learn current techniques and
principles based on most recent scientific literature. Teaching will be conducted in
English.

Course Objectives Percentage


Students are expected to have thorough knowledge and display clinical 10%
adequacy with regards to:
1. History taking and examination in children and young
adolescents, dental charting, construction of ideal treatment
plans, patient record documentation
2. Diagnostic methods of caries, caries risk assessment in 10%
Jordanian populations, radiographic examination guidelines and
interpretation of radiographs, restorative dentistry for the
pediatric patient
3. Behaviour management techniques in different with respect to 15%
ages
4. Preventive programs in pediatric dentistry- use of fluorides and 40%
fissure sealants, oral hygiene instructions and diet advice
5. Pulp therapy and restorative dentistry in primary and young 20%
permanent teeth
6. Introduction to the most common developmental anomalies 5%

Teaching & Learning Methods


Theoretical component:
 Duration: 16 weeks in the first semester
 Lectures: 16 hours, 1 hour per week (including one-hour midterm exam)

 Students will be continuously assessed in clinics and are required to fulfill the clinical
requirements of the course over the whole year (first and second semester) which
include:
