My Own Personal Heritage

As I internalizing of what is My Own Personal Heritage, it

triggers my mind to brings different understanding for different

people—and it should. Heritage is a person’s unique, inherited

sense of family identity: the values, traditions, culture, and

artifacts handed down by previous generations. We absorb a sense of our heritage

throughout our lives as we observe and experience the things that make our family

unique. Although not every inherited trait, tendency, or tradition is positive, we generally

consider heritage to be the positive and meaningful elements of our family’s identity that

we incorporate into our own lives and pass along to succeeding generations. Some people

have a strong sense of their heritage. They can point to a flag hanging proudly nearby or

repeat stories and traditions shared by their parents or grandparents. Some have a

confident sense of the unique interests, occupations, or values found in their family.

Others may have to look a little more closely to identify traces of heritage in their lives.

Asking the following questions may help people discover elements of their family’s

unique legacy in their lives.

Some misconception may arise, we may think that only material things can be

inherited but there is richer than that. Are you ready to know your OWN HERITAGE ?

For me its quite challenging but I need to discover it. Thanks for the chance!

My Inherited Values!

I have a big family that I

love most. Being in a

family that is not stable

financially is very hard but

hats off for my parent,

HILARIO and RENARIA

who really build a strong

Unfortunately, we don’t have family picture, this picture shows foundation for our family
only ½ of our family members. We used to bond always to create
happy memories.
that whatever whirlwinds

that may come we still

manage to stand still. My

parents give me the inheritance that even the richest person living in this world can’t

buy…and that are my VALUES. My parent taught me how to persevere in my studies

and I did. They hone me in decision making and be responsible of whatever the

consequences it may give. They let me see the reality of life and not sugarcoat the

negative sides of it. I am not a perfect daughter instead they made me have fear with

GOD. But most of all, I inherited the value of HAPPINESS and SIMPLICITY, I can be

happy even in the darkest of time and I can be contented of the things that made me

happy. Also, my parents taught me to be grateful on whatever blessings that I may have

and to share that blessing to others, it may not tangible things but it counts. More

importantly they instill to me the value of HUMILITY, as in the bible stated “ BLESSED

ARE THOSE MEEK AND HUMBLE”. Family is something that I have value very

much and something that I’m thankful for every day. Without my family, I wouldn’t
where I am today and probably wouldn’t have amounted to the success I’m enjoying right

now.

My Family’s tradition and culture.

We, as a family has a very simple tradition. Like when we are going to have our

meals, we should be together. My father always reminds us that we should skip meals

and eat it on time. You can hear him say this line, “AYAW NIYO PAGPASAMBAHA

AN PAGKAUN”. Another is, it is our tradition to celebrate any occasions like

graduation, accomplishments, birthdays and etc. even we have only pansit on our table.

That is why I can say that we have really a close family relationship.

Artifacts Handed Down by Previous Generations

This artifact has created lots of memory from our great grandparents until

nowadays and I am grateful that I am the one who take care of this artifact. It is from the

grandparents of my late Lolo Pedro.

My Lolo said it is “buhay na bato” that is used for manual grinding. I remember

my Lolo using this while grinding a “kakaw seed” to make a tablea. He used it very

hardly and I can say it is a very tiring process, I remember that I told him that, “Nanu

man un papay nagtuturo sa giniling an dangga mo!” It is gross but I smile whenever I

see this gilingan. I wonder why he still use it before even there is already an electric one

in the market all that you should do it do pay small amount of money. Sadly, I can’t be

able to ask my Lolo because he already in heaven for almost a decade but his memories

were still fresh in my mind.

Another inheritance is part of this land. Fortunately my mother inherited this land

area from her parent and it will be divided in the future but because me and some of my

siblings have already our own family and owned land we decided to make this as our

ancestral place in the future. For almost more than one hectares this is the only area was

left but I cannot blame my parents for solding some of it since we cannot afford to

finance our studies my parent used it to support us. It may not be so big but we found a

HOME in this place.

In conclusion, I want to share this saying that I love most “ IT IS NOT THE

HONOR THAT YOU TAKE WITH YOU, BUT THE HERITAGE YO LEAVE

BEHIND.” (Branch Rickey). As I was thinking what to write I already think of my

future roots. I hope they will see what I saw from my ancestors.
