Abstract: In Chapter 13, “CO2 Capture and Storage,” precombustion, oxy-fuel
combustion, and various postcombustion technologies (some of which are in the
development stage) were discussed. This chapter focuses on emerging technologies
that show promise in reducing the carbon footprint during power generation using
coal. Technologies that are discussed include the chemical looping processes,
specifically chemical looping combustion, chemical looping gasification, and
calcium looping; and hybrid renewable/fossil fuel processes such as solar-coal
(pulverized coal) combustion, solar-coal gasification, and solar hybrid coal-to-
liquids polygeneration.
Keywords: Chemical looping processes; Solar-coal gasification; Solar pulverized
coal-combustion; Hybrid processes
