I. Introduction
In this quarter, we are given a performance task by Sir Drexler Jupiter Obiena. The
performance task is to give a real-life problem that involves with the concepts of
calculus. The performance task to be performed is the Application of Differential and
Integral Calculus in real-life problem. My goal for this topic is to demonstrate and
explain my understanding about the topic. The field that I choose for this performance
task is Electronic Engineering and my real-life problem involves in circuits.

II. Concept
The concept that I will be using in this problem is the Integral Calculus. In Integral
Calculus, the main problem is, given the derivative of a function, find the function. In the
study of Integrals, one of the basic problems will be to find the area bounded by graph of
curve but in this problem I will be finding the basic common problems in a circuit, it is to
find the charge of a circuit with the initial charge on a given capacitor and given time.
(a). An expression for the charge on the capacitor
(b). The charge when the t=10s

III. Problem
In this problem you are an Electronic Technician from an Electronic Company. In this
time it is still your first and you are assigned to be in the maintenance team, which will be
the ones who check up and do tests in any electrical or electronic equipment. The
supervisor of your team tasked you to check and test the charge of the capacitor in one of
the electronic equipment. The current to a certain capacitor is given by i =2t³+t²+3. The
initial charge on the capacitor is 5 C (coulombs). Find:
(a). An expression for the charge on the capacitor.
(b). The charge when t=3s

Solution:
(a).
the function for the charge is q=∫ i dt
dq = ∫ 2t³+t²+3 dt
t4 t ³
q = + + 3t + c – this is the expression for the charge on the capacitor.
2 3
Find the constant c, q is substituted by 5, since it is the initial charge of the capacitor the
t=0.
(0)4 (0)³
5= + + 3(0) + c
2 3
5 =c, or c=5 – this is the constant c.
(b).
t4 t ³
q = + + 3t + c
2 3
(3)4 (3)³
q= + + 3(3) +5 – I substituted the t=3s from the given.
2 3
q =40.5 + 9 + 9 + 5
q =63.5 C – this is the charge when t=5s

t4 t ³
So the expression for the problem is q =+ + 3t + b, and the
2 3
charge of the capacitor with a given time 5 seconds is 63.5 C
(coulombs).
