LISTENING 1:THE BUTTERFLY

CIRCUS

The Butterfly Circus is a short film created by Joshua


and Rebekah Weigel in 2009. The production was
completed in 12 days by a cast and crew of over 150
people, on locations in Southern California. The short
garnered its first award as the Grand Prize winner of
The Doopost Film Project, and then went on to win
subsequent awards at festivals around the world. By July
2010, the film had already accumulated over 7 million
collective online views primarily through posts on
YouTube. It also featured Latino celebrity Eduardo
Verástegui (Bella), Doug Jones who played the Pale
Man in 'Pan's Labyrinth'. Nick Vujicic, an international
motivational and evangelistic speaker from Australia
who was born without arms or legs, debuted in film and
received the Best Actor award for his starring
performance as Will at the 2010 Method Fest
Independent Film Festival. Along with his many life experiences, Nick recounts
working on the film in his book titled Life Without Limits: Inspiration for a Ridiculously
Good Life (Random House, 2010).

The first time they see him, people laugh but the circus director doesn't and tells him
that he is someone special.

According to the expression on his face, he feels angry and frustrated by the off enses
he suffers

They shot a tomato

5. What's the main character's name?


His name is will
Part II: In the river... (length 9 min)

7. Why did Will start to cross the river alone?


Because no one wanted to help him and the circus director told him that he should
solve his problems alone.

8. Why do you think the "showman" didn't help him?


Because you must learn to believe in yourself

9. What happened while he was crossing the river?


he fell into the river

10. What was his friends' reaction?


His friends thought he was drowning

11. What happened next?


He swam to the surface and surprised everyone.

12. Finally, Will had a show to offer to the public in the circus. What was this show
about?
He would jump off a high ramp into a pool and swim to the surface alone.

13. What happened in this scene? Why do you think it happened?

Because the boy saw him swim even though he is


disabled and the boy was motivated by his
performance.

14. Did you like the movie? Why? Why not?


Yes, I really liked the movie, because it leaves you a nice message

15. Were you emotionally touched?

Yes, I saw it because I saw a person who was frustrated was able to solve their
problems

16. Which moments did you like the most?

I liked the moment Will's friends thought he was drowning and, in the end, he
surprised everyone by swimming to the surface.

17. What did you take away from the movie?


He left me a nice message, that we must not feel frustrated by our difficulties, we
must evolve like a butterfly, and that there is no obstacle that can overcome us.
