Course Pretest
1. Differentiate chemical agents of sterilization/ disinfection from physical agents.
(5pts.)
- So the difference between chemical agents of sterilization/ disinfection
from physical agents is that chemical agent uses disinfectant, antiseptic,
antibiotics, and chemotherapeutic antimicrobial chemicals while
physical agent uses such method of control of high or low temperature

2. List down at least five (5) examples of chemical agents.

2.1 Antiseptic
2.2 Antibiotics
2.3 Disinfectant
2.4 Sanitizer
2.5 Chemotherapeutic antimicrobial chemicals

3. List down at least five (5) examples of physical agents.

3.1 Autoclaving
3.2 Hot air sterilization
3.3 Incineration
3.4 Boiling water
3.5 Desiccation
4. Which of the two (2) methods used for sterilization/ disinfection much more
effective against pathogens. Defend your answer. (5pts.)
- For me both method are effective on its on uses since this two have
different ways of sterilizing and disinfecting and both of them are designed to be used in
different kind of objective like if we decide that chemical agent is more better than physical
agent it’s like we are going to disregard the object that are not supposed to be sterilized
or disinfected in such kind of way and vice versa.
LEARNING PLAN
(Using 6E’s Pedadogy)
1. Vertical Autoclave
- this is a physical method for sterilization. They work with a combination of steam,
pressure and time. It operate at high temperature and pressure in order to kill
microorganisms and spores.

2. This act as a clarifier, separating suspended solids from bulk flow liquid stream and
as a result is employed within the final stage of a separation process.
3. This act as a barrier to separate contaminants from water, or they remove the
particles contaminating the water.
4. This is design to sterilize metal and non-metal devices by diffusing hydrogen peroxide
vapour into the chamber and then electromagnetically exciting the hydrogen peroxide
molecules into a low-temperature plasma state.

5. This is an electrical devices which use dry heat to sterilize. They use a thermostat to
control the temperature. Their double walled insulation keeps the heat in and conserve
energy, the inner layer being a poor conductor and outer layer being metallic.
6. This is a laboratory equipment made from a container filled with heated water. It is used
to incubate samples in water at a constant temperature over a long period of time. It is
also used to enable certain chemical reactions to occur at high temperature.

7. This is used as an antiseptic for the treatment of common skin infection such as
infection of the skin around the nails, prevention of infection in minor burns, cuts and
abrasion.

8. This is frequently used as a disinfectant agent. It is a broad-spectrum disinfectant that

is effective for the disinfection of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and mycobacterium. However it
is not effective in the disinfection of bacterial spores and prions.
