Question 1 (2 points)

Why was it important to RJ’s use of evidence-based practice that he question if there
might be a better way of providing continuing education?

Continuing education focuses on delivering the best possible treatment, improving

capabilities, and expanding awareness. It has the advantages of making you a
trustworthy source of information for your patients and colleagues, providing the best
evidence-based practices, maintaining current and up-to-date nursing expertise,
improving your leadership skills through continuing education, and providing leverage
for promotions and pay raises.

Since he has seen a high number of safety reports relating to nursing practices in the
last few months, RJ wondered if there could be a better way of delivering continuing
education. He does, however, want to reduce the number of safety reports while also
improving client results. So, before pursuing the shift in preparation, he wants to look at
the empirical evidence on hospital nurses using simulation for continuing education.

He believes that using this new teaching technique for nurses will make clients safer,

However, he wishes to reduce the number of safety reports while also improving client
outcomes. So, before moving forward with the shift in preparation, he wants to examine
the empirical evidence on hospital nurses using simulation for continuing education.
RJ wondered if there could be a better way to deliver continuing education after seeing
a high number of safety reports relating to nursing practices in the last few months. He
believes that using this kind of teaching technique will make clients safer, as it has
previously assisted him with simulation. He does, however, want to reduce the number
of safety reports while also improving client outcomes. So, before pursuing the shift in
preparation, he wants to look at the empirical evidence on hospital nurses using
simulation for continuing education.

The research article helped RJ in generating an inquiry whether the simulation

approach in educating the nurses would also provide the same satisfactory results for
performing better client safety. It gave him the curiosity and willingness to check for the
effectiveness of a certain practice that might lead to better performances of nurses. This
inquiry would eventually lead to investigating for more and new research findings and
evidence from different studies to assess, evaluate, synthesize, and determine the
outcomes of its effectiveness and implement better or improved procedures and
practices.

Nurses provide direct care to their patients on a daily basis, so they know which
approaches work well and which need adjusting. An essential trait of a caring,
competent practitioner is questioning standard procedure and determining how to
improve it. Nursing concerns are the heart of nursing research.

nurses use research to effect positive outcomes for their patients and for others within
the healthcare system.

Nursing education research examines how students learn the nursing profession.

Pose significant questions that can be investigated empirically.

Link research to relevant theory.

Use methods that permit direct investigation of the question.

Provide a coherent and explicit chain of reasoning.

Replicate and generalize across studies.

Disclose research to encourage professional scrutiny and critique.

Inquiry-based science challenges students' thinking by engaging them in investigating
scientifically orientated questions where they learn to give priority to evidence, evaluate
explanations in the light of alternative explanations and learn to communicate and justify
their decisions.

Since research studies helps nurses determine effective best practices and improve
patient care, the research article has helped RJ in questioning, critical thinking, and the
creative development of new knowledge through inquiry to formulate questions that he
needed about whether the simulation approach in educating the nurses would provide
the same satisfactory results for performing better client safety.

It also helped find the evidence that determines the effectiveness of this approach. It
also improved the nurses on how to help improving client safety.

are as important (if not more so) to learning as information finding through research.

Not every study may be meaningful for your patient, question, topic or concern. You
need to carefully evaluate every research paper you consider — look for weaknesses,
inconsistencies, biases and other problems. Evidence-based practice requires you to
become proficient at performing these evaluations and reaching your own conclusions
about the information you use.
