Chapter 1

“He’s always throwing a faint,” said


Merridew. “He did in Gib; and Addis;
and at matins over the precentor.”(page
20).

This shows that Simon faints not just


quickly but often. [He is epileptic]
Chapter 2

“We used his specs,” said Simon,


smearing a black cheek with his forearm.
“He helped that way.” (Page 33)

This is showing Simon protecting and


caring for Piggy from Jack when picking
on him about not working with the
group.
Chapter 3

“Simon found for them fruit they could


not reach, pulled off the choicest from
up in the foliage, passed them back
down to the endless, outstretched
hands.” (page 56)“

This shows that Simon is helpful, and


cares for others.
Chapter 4

“Simon, sitting between the twins and


Piggy, wiped his mouth and shoved his
piece of meat over the rocks to Piggy,
who grabbed it” (page 74).

This tells us [the reader] that simon is


caring and thoughtful.
Chapter 5

“What I mean is . . . maybe it’s only


us””(page 89).

This shows what he might think that


since they are in the island for a long
time that when they get rescued they
may be frightened of themselves.
Simons opinion on what he thinks the
beast is.
Chapter 6

“Simon allowed his pace to slacken


until he was walking side by side with
Ralph and looking up at him through
the coarse black hair that fell now to his
eyes” (Page. 103).

This shows that Simons hair is longer


and slacking a lot more than when he
started.
Chapter 7

“You’ll get back to where you came


from.”(page 111)

Another quote showing how nice and


thoughtful Simon is towards the others.
Chapter 8

“Simon stayed where he was, a small


brown image, concealed by the leaves.
Even if he shut his eyes the sow’s head
still remained like an after image.” (137
ch 8)

Simon has seen what the boys have


done with the pig’s head, shocked.
Chapter 9

“He saw how pitilessly the layers of


rubber and canvas held together the
poor body that should be rotting away.”
(page 146)

Simon figures out what the boys


thought was the beast, was actually a
dead parachuter.
Chapter 10

“That was Simon.” “That was murder.”


(page 156)

This is Ralph’s thoughts on Simon’s


death and thinks it was murder.

Description

from under a hut of straight hair that deceived Ralph into thinking him

Analysis

How did your character evolve over the What could your character symbolize,
course of the novel? and why?

Simon started out fearful and scared. He Simon symbolizes peace and calmness in
developed and evolved to be a courageous, society. The rest of the boys went crazy on
and mature individual over the course of the island while Simon was the only one
the novel. who remained kind and mature.
