Dear Jeannette,

We are Daniela Calderon from Brazil, Tatiana Molina from Japan and Julian Ardila from
France. Juan and I are 19 years old and Tatiana is 18. We want to tell you a little bit about our
cultures. Brazil is the largest country in South America, its official language is Portuguese,
known for its typical dance, which is the samba. Japan is in Asia, its official language is
Japanese. Japanese food is so popular that sushi becomes a staple at Western fast food fairs.
France is a country where its official language is French; it is known for the beautiful Eiffel
Tower. Although we live on different continents we have been friends for 8 months and met
through an online game that we are all very good at. We wanted to be online friends because we
share things in common; we want to speak English very well and learn about different cultures,
especially our own.

Our pen pal friendship has been a bit complicated because of the cultural difference
between us, but that experience has helped us improve our English. Social networks are our most
important tool, we like to contact each other through phone calls which force us to make a
correct pronunciation to understand each other, we also connect to watch movies in English
without subtitles to familiarize ourselves with the language. Our English has improved a lot with
these group activities.

If my friends and I win this contest, we would like to visit the city of Bristol, for its
variety of things to do like going to the historic ship SS Great Britain, visit its fascinating
aquarium or enjoy the incredible street art, also go through the city of London and visit the Big
Ben a place so emblematic for the country of England and go on the London Eye to appreciate
the city from the heights. However, there are many rules that we have been able to investigate to
not disrespect anyone in that country, the English people are very polite constantly say the words
(please, thank you and excuse me), not responding in the same way is considered a great
discourtesy; it is also a country that loves tea and not accepting it is an offense to their culture.
We hope to win this contest so we can learn more about England, get to know its people,
strengthen our English and improve our communication skills.

Best regards,
Daniela, Tatiana, and Julian.
