With the start of July, the sacred pilgrim journey of Amarnath cave begins. The journey to the home of
Lord Shiva through snow-capped mountains and the lush green valley is an ethereal experience.
Amarnath cave is considered as the divine place of Bhole Baba and the pilgrimage to this cave attracts
thousands of people all around the world every year. The beginning of the journey to the cave has

1. It is believed that Amarnath cave is the place where Lord Shiva narrates the secret of
immortality to the Devi Parvathi.
2. There was no one in the cave when the secret was being told except for a pair of pigeons. It is
trusted that one can see those pigeons, as they are immortal, in the cave every year.
3. The journey started at Pahalgam, which is believed to be the place where the bull Nandi was left
by Lord Shiva. At Chandanwari, he left his moon and snakes at Sheshnag. Lord Ganesh was left
by him at Mahagunas Hills and five elements of Air, Water, Fire, Earth, and Sky at Panjtari. Then
he made his way towards the cave of Amarnath with Devi Parvathi.
4. You’ll have to pass through Pissu top in between the yatra. The Pissu top was made up of the
dead bodies demons after a fight between God and Demons occurred to reach the top of the
cave.
5. You’ll be surprised to know that there are three naturally formed Lingams of ice in the Amarnath
cave. Each Lingam represents Lord Ganesh, Devi Parvathi, and Lord Shiva.
6. The cave is more than 5000 years old.
7. There is a source of water near Shiva Lingam that is not traced after innumerable experiments
by researchers.
8. On the way, hundreds of kitchens or langars are arranged to meet the requirements of
thousands of pilgrims regularly.
9. The most sacred and divine Hindu pilgrimage was founded by a Muslim shepherd named Buta
Malik.
10. The yatra is carried on two routes, the traditional Pahalgam route and the one which starts the
pilgrimage at Baltal.
