Genders in the German language

If you are a beginner, we would like to add a few points to make the learning process easy
for you. Every noun has a gender in the German language. Always learn the nouns with their
genders and the plural form. This will immensely help you, as the most important topics of
German grammar are built around the articles or the gender of the German nouns.

Articles in German

Masculine - der

Feminine - die

Neuter - das

Plural - die

As you know, German is spoken in multiple countries. Some dialects have alternative words
or plural forms for certain words. Hence, more than one plural form has been mentioned for
a few words below. The nouns which don’t have a plural form are marked as “-” which
means not applicable.

Our tips before you begin learning

- Try to associate the nouns below with the colors provided. We have associated blue
with masculine, red with feminine and green with the neuter gender.
- We have associated adjectives with the purple color.
- If you are wondering how to go about learning the pronunciations as well as
memorizing these words, don’t worry as we have provided some links at the end of
the list. You can download audio from these links and learn these same words with a
completely different experience of audio and pictures. Make sure you check the links
after learning the list.
