I would recommend the management to go ahead with using Quantumscape batteries as their
batteries are a true example of a disruptive and a revolutionary technological innovation.

Quantumscape batteries, unlike the regular Lithium ion batteries do not have the anode (-) charge
particles and instead have a solid state ceramic separator. Here, the anode is formed with pure
metallic lithium which allows the energy of the solid state battery to be stored in a smaller volume
enabling a higher energy density as compared to conventional Lithium ion batteries. The other
benefits of Quantumscape batteries include –

 Higher energy – this helps boost the performance of the vehicle

 Fast charge – Enables < 15 minute fast charge
 Increased life – Long lasting battery saves the incurring of replacement cost
 Safety – Non-flammable and non-combustible
 Cost – Lower running cost by eliminating anode host material and manufacturing cost

Quantumscape is a company with a huge future potential as they have raised $230MM through
mergers. This company has also planned to raise 1.5 billion dollars in cash to fund commercialization
plans and also spend on R&D.

Use of the technology leading Quantumscape battery would help Mr Vinod Mehta to achieve his
dream of revamping the RBM product line by bringing in potentially blockbuster product using the
disruptive and revolutionary technology infused batteries. This would also help RBM to scale to a
new level by launching superior quality products and would give it a global eminence. The low
manufacturing cost of the batteries can help boost the profits of RBM as well hence it’s a feasible
option to consider shifting from Tesla’s traditional Lithium Ion batteries to Quantumscape batteries.

Quantumscape, in order to compete more strongly with Tesla might be willing to sell their batteries
to RBM at a better price than Tesla. Hence RBM should make the best use of this opportunity and go
ahead with Quantumscape batteries.
