This form is designed to help you gather information about the labor on the farm. The "fill-in" spots are
to record the jobs that take place, how many people are involved and how many hours are involved.
For example, the first line may be for "morning milking and chores". There may be 2 people that are in the barn
for 4 hours each (every day) - in that case put 4 hrs x 2 people x 365 days = 2920 hours. Then you could
allocate how much of that time was spent with cows or young stock - eg 75% : 25%
The right side is to assist in gathering the # of Tractor hours (all motorized vehicles) and with that we could
allocate the fuel use (tractor use = fuel use). For heavy duty jobs such as cutting silage, use a factor of 2
to compensate for the additional fuel used with heavy work. The "Tractor Alloc" is to show the % of time that is
spent with each enterprise
To add to the above example, you could show that there is 2.5 hr / day spent mixing and delivering feed and it
would be split 85% with cows and 15% with heifers. - so put down 912 hrs with an allocation of 85/15
Cointinue to fill out all the jobs that are done including repairs and managing the business (like bookkeeping,
ordering supplies, talking to salesmen, research etc…
The bottom 2 lines (in the box) will show you the % of time spent (by enterprise) for labour and fuel use.
The lines are for a guide only. Modify them to suit what is happening on your farm.
