B. My Perspective About Curriculum Approaches

CURRICULUM APPROACHES

2. It is holistic
3. The nature of curriculum
4. Perspectives
5. Domains of curriculum

Curriculum is the blueprint of education or the school system that encompasses

various (1) objectives. It was (2) well-planned and critically scrutinized by the people
who are responsible on making this with a (3) legal basis because it is a policy that
covers the national education. The Republic Act 10533 or the Enhanced Basic
Education Act of 2013 was passed by Congress on January 30, 2013 and approved by
the President on May 15, 2013 effective on June 4, 2013. The purpose of the act is to
enhance and strengthen the curriculum by (4) adding two years in highschool in order to
produce (5) globally competitive students and a higher rate of employment and social-
economic growth. The additional two years in highschool is referred to as the senior
highschool composed of (6) academic tracks such as STEM, HUMSS, ABM, and GA. In
each (7) program it offers a specialized scope and field that will hone the skills and
knowledge in preparation of the students’ college degree. Additionally, it is stated in the
new curriculum that in the 21 st century learners the (8) instructional delivery is student-
centered and performance based. With that, under the (9) provisions for teachers
teaching they must undergo trainings like school leadership trainings to be able to learn
also the new teaching techniques and (10) strategies to achieve the vital characteristic
of an educator under the new curriculum.

ANALYSIS

Curriculum approaches is the way of dealing with the curriculum itself. It redirects
the holistic perspective of the foundations, domains, theoretical and practical principles
of the curriculum. Curriculum approaches include the behavioral, managerial,
humanistic, systems, academic, and reconceptualists. The nature of these approaches
is on how to create, design, and thinking about how the curriculum should be
established. Knowing curriculum approaches is important before defining curriculum
because each approaches states a viewing platform about the development and design
of curriculum and how it would be beneficial to the teacher and the learner. In
understanding the different perspectives of each curriculum approaches and the usual
curriculum approach that is utilized by the teacher or school it will make them aware of
what to enhance or what strategy to keep and exclude.

Now, my personal definition of curriculum is the blueprint of the education or the

school system. In which, it serves as a pattern that has a particular objective and goals
to achieve. By creating a curriculum, it makes the system’s goals vivid as well as its
outcomes.

APPLICATION

1. Of what value are the insights you acquired about curriculum approaches? How
will you use these insights when you join the academic community in the near
future?

 The insights that I have gained about curriculum approaches are very
important because it gave me the idea about the nature of the various
approaches. The six types of curriculum approaches – behavioral,
managerial, humanistic, systems, academic, and reconceptualists have
distinct features and point of view. All of these are fundamental to the
education system as it shows viewing platform about the development and
design of curriculum and how it would be beneficial to the teacher and the
learner. Wherein, once I enter the field of teaching I would be able to
identify the approach that would suit to the learning environment of the
students and the type of program they are in. Also, by applying a specific
approach would make my profession have a clear path to follow.

2. After learning the various definitions about the curriculum, what is your new
perspective about it now?

 Curriculum is a broad topic and has been defined in different perspectives.

The idea that I was able to come up after knowing those aforementioned
is that curriculum serves as the backbone to the whole education system.
It may be the programs, the strategies, or organization of procedures it still
bonds to the system of education. In which the main purpose of having a
curriculum is to organize and identify the specific goals that all the
teachers should acquire to effectively impart knowledge to the learners.
Thus, the curriculum plays a vigorous role to the educational system as to
where the learners knowledge would depend and to be able produce top
performing professionals.

Scenario
Mrs. Alforque is a professor at Pamantasan ng Markina. She is in the Social
Science unit and currently teaching geography to the first year students. She is
passionate when it comes to her profession and adored by many. In her mode of
instruction, she establishes first the specific goals and objectives, the flow of the topics,
and the tasks to conduct.
The first topic that was discussed by Mrs. Alforquue to her students was about
the bodies of water in the world. The class was expected to know and identify the
different characteristic of each. The whole class was attentive and participating towards
the discussion. And then by the end of the lesson, Mrs. Garcia announced that for the
next meeting she will be conducting a moving exam for the class.
Among the 38 students of Mrs. Alforque, there were only 11 of them who have
failed during the test. Majority of the class have met the expected learning outcomes,
however, the number of students who have failed bothers her so she decided to
