Summary

One can organize and start a barbecue by first renting a simple barbecue pit. If none are
available, one can be dug in the garden. Secondly, a wire netting is needed, along with skewers
to hold the meat, and utensils. Any meat can be used. Meat pieces should be thinly sliced and
placed on skewers. Chicken wings are ideal, as they can be spread apart and placed on skewers.
Then, marinate the meat to add flavour. It may be brushed with ‘Maggie’ barbecue sauce. Also,
it is important to have satay. An hour in advance, start the charcoal fire and allow it to burn,
leaving bright embers. To commence the barbecue, place the sticks of meat atop the wire
netting.

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am writing in connection with the frequent cuts in electricity supply in my area. Over the last
three days, there have been numerous power cuts occurring one after the other. This has
caused a large quantity of food items in my refrigerator to spoil, including meats, dairy products
and leftovers. In total, these foods were valued at $10,500.

Under the circumstance, I would be thankful if I could be compensated for all the food that has
gone to waste due to spoilage. I have enclosed copies of receipts on which the food products
which were spoiled are highlighted, in order to show proof of purchase.

I look forward to your response within a week, and I hope that this matter can be resolved. I
can be contacted by my phone number (+1-876-368-7493).

Yours truly,

Rachel Hudson

Have you ever vacationed in another country? If so, that must have been very exciting. I
am in agreement with the statement, “A holiday abroad is much more exciting than one spent
in your own country.” When vacationing abroad, you get to try new dishes, you may get to
practice a new language, and finally, you get to experience flying as well.
You can eat delicious food locally but being exposed to a whole different cuisine abroad
enables you to taste a country’s culture. You may come across foods that you have never even
heard of before! How exciting it is to treat yourself to new foods during a holiday abroad.
A Chinese proverb reads, “To learn a new language is to have one more window from
which to look at the world.” When visiting a country that has a foreign language, you can
improve your listening, reading and speaking skills in that language. This is a very engaging way
to practice a foreign language.
A holiday in your own country doesn’t usually include flying. However, vacationing
abroad almost always involves travelling by plane. Flying is very exciting, with the stunning view
of the sky, airplane refreshments and more. When people travel abroad, they get to enjoy this
unique experience.
In conclusion, I think that holidays abroad are much more exciting than those in one’s
own country. There are substantial reasons for this; you are able to try new types of food, you
can improve your skills in a foreign language and you get to fly on a plane. Wouldn’t you like to
spend a holiday abroad?
4. Story

Who’s There?

I was awakened by the loud bang in my drawing room. I thought that it was the dog, Cookie,
having gotten excited about something, but when I looked to my left, Cookie was right there on
the floor beside my bed. He too had been woken up by the noise. My heart began to race as I
wondered what had created the noise. As I took a deep breath, I decided to investigate.
I pulled the soft, white comforter off of me and got out of bed. I parted the sliding doors of my
closet and retrieved my old, maple baseball bat that I had started keeping there for protection.
As I quietly exited the room and left Cookie safely in there with the door shut, I wished my
husband, Jacob, was there with me. It had been three weeks since he had left for a month-long
business trip in England. Each day I would fret that something would happen while he was
away, and that night, it seemed as if my worst fear had come true.
I slipped into the dark hallway and silently descended the black walnut staircase. Upon reaching
the bottom, I saw the figure of a man enter the kitchen. I clutched the baseball bat with
trembling hands and started to walk in that direction. When I came to the kitchen’s entrance, I
was able to see the man a little better. He was faced in the other direction, gripping an object.
My body felt limp when I realized that he was holding a gun.
It was if he had felt my presence, and he spun around suddenly. Adrenaline started pumping
through my body. I had to get him before he got me. I raised the bat above my head and lunged
at him. All of a sudden, I tripped over my own foot and went crashing towards the floor. I used
my hands to avoid falling on my face. I heard the click of the light switch and then came the
accompanying brightness.
To my complete surprise, I saw my husband’s bewildered face staring at me. The “gun” was a
sizeable banana. His eyes went to the bat and then back at me. After a pause, he started
laughing. “It’s not funny, Jacob.” I said, as he began to laugh uncontrollably. “You almost gave
me a heart attack!” “You weren’t supposed to be back until next week,” I added. “I wanted to
surprise you!”, he said. As I lay in bed beside him with an icepack on each of my wrists, I too
was able to laugh at the situation, and I like to imagine that Cookie had a smile on his face too.
