BREASTFEEDING AND LACTATION MANAGEMENT TRAINING

Malungon Municipal Hospital is initiating steps in strengthening its capabilities as a

Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital by adhering to the standards of the World Health
Organization (WHO), UNICEF and the Department of Health in protecting, promoting and
supporting breastfeeding and lactation as the optimal way for a woman to feed her baby.
MalMH acknowledges that breastfeeding offers important health benefits for both the mother
and the child. Furthermore, all hospitals are mandated by the Licensing Division of the
Department of Health to be certified as a Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital.

Our facility conducted a three-day training on Breastfeeding and Lactation

Management to all hospital employees and staff last October 4-6, 2017 (Batch 1) and October
11-13, 2017 (Batch 2) with the following objectives: (1) to comply with the requirements
needed in applying for accreditation as a Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative in Region
XII; (2) to adhere to the laws that protect and support breastfeeding as mandated in Executive
Order No. 51 or the National Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes, Republic Act
7600 otherwise known as “The Rooming-in and Breastfeeding Act of 1992, Republic Act
10082 or the “Expanded Promotion of Breastfeeding Act” and PHIC Circular No. 26, series
of 2005 known as the Mother Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative; and (3) to enable and equip
all hospital personnel with the revised, updated and expanded program of the World Health
Organization (WHO) on Breastfeeding and its role in addressing infant mortality and
morbidity in our region.

The said training was facilitated by the MBFHI Office spearheaded by Clyde Cyril L.
Baculio, RN, MBFHI Coordinator, Jimmy H. Liray, RM and Allen Geoffrey G. Española,
MD, Head of Facility. It was composed of 20 hours didactics and 3 hours practicum.
