Chapter 18.7
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The NCR 5897 Business Depository provides a secure and
convenient way for business to make bag or envelope deposits. It is
designed as a sidecar unit to fit alongside Personas 70/73/74/75/77
and 4th generation 5670/74/75 NCR in-lobby ATMs or as a
standalone depository.
NOTE: Rear Access ATMs are not supported as hosts for the 5897
Business Depository.
VARIANTS
The 5897 Business Depository (BD) is available in a number of
model variants, as follows.
Personas, Left-Hand Sidecar Location (5877 ATM)
Personas, Right-Hand Sidecar Location (5873, 5870, 5874 and
5975 ATMs).
Personas, Standalone Depository
56XX, Right-Hand Sidecar Location (5670, 5674 and 5675
ATMs).
56XX, Standalone Depository.
OPTIONS
The following options are available for the 5897 BD:
Secondary Lock
One key/combination lock is provided as standard, a second key/
combination lock may be ordered as an optional extra.
Alarms
Seismic Detector
A Seismic Detector can be fitted to detect attacks on the
depository safe. The detector is able to detect vibration, heat and
physical attack on the safe and is sensitive in ranges synonymous
with drilling and tampering.
Silent Alarm
An optional combination lock with a silent alarm function can be
fitted as an alternative to the standard key/combination lock. A
silent alarm is initiated when the operator is forced to open the safe
under duress. The use of a preset duress combination will open the
safe, but will automatically trigger a silent alarm condition.
Vibration Sensor
An optional simple, low cost Vibration Sensor can be fitted on the
safe door to detect vibration and heat by means of a sprung gauge
device.
Envelope Slot
The depository head can be configured to allow envelope deposits
without the need to unlock the depository door. The door can be
opened slightly to form an envelope slot to allow non-key or card-
holders to make deposits on behalf of an account-holder.

POWER REQUIREMENTS
Voltage: 110-125V AC or 220-240V AC
Frequency: 50-60Hz
Current: 0.5A
Alarm System: 12V DC 200mA max
OPERATION
The BD can be unlocked either directly with a key for use like a
traditional night safe, or via an ATM to enable account update and
issue of a receipt of deposit showing date, time amount and
location. When used in conjunction with an ATM, the deposit
functionality is driven through the Remote Relay/Night Deposit
Interface feature F310/K310 in the host ATM.
The depository head can be opened with a security key, or when
used in conjunction with an ATM, by inserting a valid magnetic
card in the ATM, entering a valid PIN number and selecting the
Deposit function.
When a bag is inserted in the head and the head door closed,
the deposit will fall into the security enclosure.
When the head door is closed and a deposit passes from the
head to the security enclosure, it is detected by a ring of
sensors located at the throat of the depository. The sensor ring
controls the operation of the head solenoid, as follows:
When a bag passes through the ring of sensors, the head
solenoid will automatically lock, preventing any further
deposits until the head door is next unlocked using the key,
or via the ATM.
If the security enclosure is full and a bag in the security
enclosure is continuously detected by the ring of sensors,
the head solenoid will automatically lock preventing any
further deposits.
If a bag jams, the head solenoid will automatically lock
until the blockage is cleared.
STRAPPING
If the optional Seismic Detector is fitted, the DIP switches on the
detector must be set as shown in the following table.
NOTE: DIP Switches SW5 and SW6 are not used, but must
remain ON

CONTROL BOARD
The 5897 BD Control Board, with the cover removed, is shown in
the illustration below.

SENSOR FIELD
The Sensor Field shown below is held in place in the throat of the
depository by two brackets welded to the top of the depository base.
The sensor field comprises four sensor boards, as follows:
Front sensor board - 6 sensors
Rear sensor board - 6 sensors
Left sensor Board - 4 sensors
Right sensor board - 4 sensors
To remove the Sensor Field, remove the L bracket which holds
the Sensor Field assembly in place by removing two screws. Pull
the Sensor Field towards the rear of the depository until it is clear
of the mounting brackets.
