1 Wash hands

2 Explain procedure to the patient

3. Provide privacy and avoid drafts by drawing the curtains or closing the
door

4. Gather all needed equipment

5 Offer the client a bedpan or unnal.

6. Raise bed to a working level.

7 Remove the top linen. And replace it with a bath blanket.

8. Position the patient and assist to move near you

9. Assist the patient with oral hygiene as necessary

10 Remove patient's gowns.

11. Spread towel across patient's chest.

12. Make a bath mitt with washcloth.

13. Wash the client's eye. Wipe from the inner canthus to the outer
canthus using separate corners of the washcloth for each eye.

14 Wash, rinse, and dry the client's face, neck and ears.

15. Spread bath towel lengthwise under the far arm and then near arm

16. Wash, rinse and dry the patient's arms, the one further from the
nurse first, using long, firm strokes from distal to proximal areas Firm
strokes from distal to proximal areas to increase venous blood return

17. Wash axilla well


18. Place a towel directly on the bed and put the basin on it

19. Assist the client as needed to wash, rinse and dry the hands, paying
particular attention to the spaces between the fingers.

20. Spread the towel across the patient's chest and wash, rinse and dry
waist chest, giving special attention to the skin fold under the breast.

21. Wash, rinse and dry the abdomen.

22. Place towel under far led and then near leg, washing patient from
the ankle, to the knee to the thigh using long, smooth, firm strokes.
Wash the feet by placing them in the basin of water.

23. Change water as necessary

24 Assist the client to turn into prone position or side lying position
facing away from you, and place both towels lengthwise alongside the
back and buttocks
