1. OVERVIEW
The IMAP service (Internet Message Access Protocol) is a feature of Alcatel 4635 voice mail system. It
allows a user to consult their mailbox from any PC connected through an IP link type. This feature is
available from Release 5.1 Alcatel 4635 voice mail system.
The IMAP service is based on the use of a mail server, named Imapd, integrated in the A4635. This
Imapd server supports the IMAP protocol and functions on the client-server mode. It is in charge of:
• establishing the connection between the PC of the user and his mailbox (authentication),
• ensuring the access to the voice messages from messaging program of the PC (for instance
eCC, Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger or any other client of a voice mail
compatible with the IMAP protocol),
• ensuring the synchronization between the voice mail system and the messaging program of
the PC i.e. that the deletion of a message PC side is automatically taken into account in the
user mailbox and vice versa.

2. CONFIGURATION

2.1. Actis software lock

This feature requires the Actis software 314 – 4635 My Messaging use = XX
XX is the number of users allowed to use this service.
It is necessary to create an application 240 and an application 241 in the 4635 so that the voice
mail application can dialog with the Imapd server.

2.2. Creating the application 240

2.7. Allocating the IMAP service to users

Allocate the class of service above to users allowed to use this application.

3. RESTRICTION / LIMITS
If an external IMAP server is used, you must have the version 5.2.6 of Alcatel 4635 voice mail
system. This version will be used to set automatically all the files needed for using an external IMAP
server.

• Number of internal IMAP licenses: 100
• Number of users connected simultaneously: 75
