GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

1. The question paper comprises of three sections A, B, and C.

2. All questions are compulsory.
3. Question numbers 1 to 8 in section A are multiple choice questions, assertion and reason
questions and VSA type questions, carrying 1 mark each.
4.Question numbers 9 to 12 in section B are short answer type questions, carrying 2
marks each.
5. Question numbers 13 and 14 in section C are long answer type questions,
carrying 3 and 5 marks.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SECTION-A

1. The reaction Mg + N2 → Mg3N2 is an example of -------------------------- reaction. 1

2.Name a device that helps to maintain a potential difference across a conductor. 1

3. What are the end products of breakdown of pyruvate in mitochondria? 1

For question numbers 4, 5 and 6, two statements are given- one labeled Assertion (A) and the
other labeled Reason (R).Select the correct answer to these questions from the codes (a), (b),
(c) and (d) as given below:

a) Both A and R are true, and R is correct explanation of the assertion.

b) Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
c) A is true, but R is false.
d) A is false, but R is true

4.Assertion: Decoration pieces made of silver lose their shine after sometime. 1
Reason: This is due to the presence of traces of SO2 present in air.
5.Assertion: Unit of electric current can be Coulomb per Second. 1
Reason: Electric current, I = Charge (q) / Time (t)
SI unit of charge is Coulomb and that of time is Second.
6.Assertion: Amount of oxygen dissolved in water is more as compared to the amount of
oxygen in air. 1

Reason:The rate of breathing in aquatic organisms is faster than in terrestrial organisms.

7.Read the following and answer any four questions from 7 (i) to 7 (v) 1×4

The excretory system consists of organs which remove metabolic waste and toxin from the
body. In humans, this includes the removal of urea from the bloodstream and other waste
produced by the body. The removal of urea happens in the kidney, while solid wastes are
expelled from large intestine.

The excretory system in humans consists mainly of the kidneys and bladder. The kidneys filter
urea and other waste products from the blood which are then added to the urine within the
bladder. It is up to the kidneys to filter the blood so that toxic substances do not accumulate.
The kidneys are made up of large number of microscopic subunits called nephrons. These
nephrons perform the primary task of filtering blood and removing waste product.

i) This is the functional unit of kidney

a) Alveoli
b) Nephron
c) Alveoli
d) Kidney tubules
ii) The blood vessel that pass blood from heart to kidney
a) Renal artery
b) Capillary
c) Renal vein
d) All of these
iii) Materials re-absorbed in the tubule are-
a) Urea
b) Urine
c) Glucose
d) RBC
iv) Function of the kidney-
a) Ultra filtration of blood
b) Selective re-absorption of substances
c) Secretion of certain substances

a) RA> RB>RC>RD
b) RA<RB<RC<RD
c) RA = RB = RC=RD
d) RA = RB< RC<RD

ii) If the conductors A and B are connected in series and I-V graph is plotted for
the combination, its slope would be
a) Less than that of A
b) More than that of A
c) Between A and B
d) More than that of D

iii) If the conductors C and D are connected in parallel and I-V graph is plotted
for the combination, its slope would be
a) Lesser than that of A
b) More than that of D
c) Between C and D
d) Between Band C
