Mathematics in the Modern World
Subject Outcomes:
At the end of the course, pre-service teachers should be able to:
[1] Discuss and have a healthy argument about the nature and uses of mathematics, what it is, how it is expressed, represented;
[2] Use different types of reasoning to interpret information and justify statements and arguments made about mathematics and
mathematical concepts;
[3] Discuss the language and symbols of mathematics in order to expand ones’ learning, interest;
[4] Use a variety of statistical tools to manage one’s time in processing and managing numerical data that will be useful in researches;
[5] Analyze codes and coding schemes used for identification, privacy, and security purposes;
[6] Use mathematics in other areas such as finance, voting, health and medicine, business, environment, arts and design;
[7] Appreciate and value ones’ knowledge of the nature and uses of mathematics in everyday life, and
[8] Affirm honesty and integrity in the application of mathematics to various human endeavors.

1 Argue about the nature of mathematics, what it is, how it is expressed, represented, and used.
Express appreciation for mathematics as a human endeavor.
4-5 Use a variety of statistical tools to process and manage numerical data;
Use the method of linear regression and correlations to predict the value of a given certain conditions.
6-7 Use mathematical concepts and tools in other areas such as finance, voting, logic, business, networks
and systems;
Apply geometric concepts, especially isometric in describing and creating designs.
8-10 Use mathematical concepts and tools in other areas such as finance, voting, logic, business, network and
systems.
