Forward

Dear Prospective Sponsors,

On behalf of TEDxPerryvilleCorrectional, we would like to reach out to you concerning a sponsorship

partnership opportunity to build and widen your business network through the interaction with those in
attendance at our TEDx event, and the worldwide TED and TEDx community.

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to “Ideas Worth

Spreading.” It started as a four-day conference in California over
30 years ago. Since then, TED has grown to support its mission
with multiple initiatives. TEDTalks rage in topics from philosophy
of happiness, to solutions to the global energy crisis, to education
reform, to music, poetic and dance performance. In the spirit of
“ideas worth spreading,” TED established the TEDx program –
which supports individuals or groups hosting local independently
organized TED-style events around the world; helping world-
changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact
of their remarkable projects and activities.

The TEDxPerryvilleCorrectional Organizational Team, which consists of 20 residents of the Perryville

Prison Complex and community members from the Phoenix area, is currently in the preparation mode for
the its inaugural event, which will be held in April 2018. We are currently looking for assistance in funding
the event. Our Sponsorship Program summarizes the background of our conference, as well as the
different sponsorship tiers and benefits.

TEDx is known worldwide for great ideas shared by the speakers during their talks and your
organization’s association with the program will further improve its image – especially in the Phoenix
metro community. We believe that supporting this event through a sponsorship will positively affect
customer’s perception and attitudes and their preference for your brand.

We very much look forward to hearing back from you.

Sincerely,

Michelle Cirocco Jack Hooker

TED – Global Thought Leaders

A Little About TED

The now considered a world-wide phenomenon, Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) started as
a “one-off” conference held in Monterey, California in 1984; with the goal to gather leaders in these
industries and learn from one another. It wasn’t until the 1990’s that the annual TED Conferences began
to gain traction and attract the attention of thought leaders from diverse fields from around the world. In
2001, TED was transformed into a nonprofit. They started offering its most popular TED Talks to a global
audience in 2009 – online and for free. Just four years later, in 2012, TED Talks celebrated its one
billionth video view. Over the years, “the roster of presenters broadened to include scientists,
philosophers, musicians, business and religious leaders, philanthropists and many others” (https://www.ted.com/
about/our-organization/history-of-ted).

It’s often best to learn about an organization through their own words. Especially when they promote
“ideas worth spreading.” For more information see – https://www.ted.com/.

TED’s Mission

TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek
a deeper understanding of the world. We believe passionately in the power of ideas to
change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. On TED.com, we're building a
clearinghouse of free knowledge from the world's most inspired thinkers — and a
community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other, both online and at TED
and TEDx events around the world, all year long.

In fact, everything we do — from our  Conferences  to our  TED Talks  to the projects
sparked by the TED Prize, from the global TEDx community to the TED-Ed lesson series
— is driven by this goal: How can we best spread great ideas?

TED is owned by a nonprofit, nonpartisan foundation. Our agenda is to make great ideas
accessible and spark conversation. (https://www.ted.com/about/our-organization)

What is TEDx?

The TEDx Program is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals to

spark conversation and connection through local TED-like experiences.

At TEDx events, a screening of TED Talks videos — or a combination of live presenters

and TED Talks videos — sparks deep conversation and connections at the local level.
TEDx events are planned and coordinated independently, under a free license granted by
TED. (https://www.ted.com/about/programs-initiatives/tedx-program)

Event Details

performances presented on stage. The speakers and performers will consist of a combination of inmates,

impactful, relevant and insightful talk or performance. The audience will also be a combination of inmates,
staff Arizona Department of Corrections Officers, community members and your fellow sponsorship
partners.

What to Expect
At a TEDx event, TED Talk video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussions and connections.
These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED events.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx events, which are subject to certain rules
and regulations. As a sponsoring partner, you will receive preferential seating tickets, an invitation to
attend the After Party, as well as all the sponsorship incentives associated with your sponsorship level.

Our Theme
Behind the Curtain: Brains, Beauty, Business and Beyond
We learn the metaphors as children: Don’t judge a book by its cover. Peel back the layers of an onion.
There’s more to someone than meets the eye. As adults, we say we’re evolved enough not to judge
others based on their past, where they live, or the medicine they take. Are we truly as open minded as we
think we are?

During TEDxPerryvilleCorrectional, we’ll peek behind the curtain of incarceration to reveal women with
brains, beauty, intelligence, business acumen, and more. We’ll address topics surrounding mental illness,
societal issues, education and family. What impact do drugs have on someone? What are the lessons
learned through both the hard and good times? Through it all we’ll show the transformation and incredible
journeys that are taking place before our eyes. We’re pulling together an incredible lineup of speakers to
share their journey, their learnings, their future goals and ambitions.

Our Mission
Through hosting TEDxPerryvilleCorrectional, we want to pull back the curtain so those in attendance (and
the later online audience), may start to realize that as a community we hold onto certain ideas and beliefs
about our society’s incarcerated population – and that these ideas may be wrong. We want to start a
community awareness movement that will dissolve these preconceived notions.

TEDx PerryvilleCorrectional - APRIL 2018 !6

Possible Topics

We are looking to explore new ideas and new ways of thinking about topics such as:

• Business & Corrections – working together

• Drug Addiction and Treatment – alternatives, new ideas, challenging the status quo

• Education – unique and non-traditional approaches to learning and job training

• Parenting – incarceration, separations and reunification

• Societal Issues – homelessness, human trafficking and stereotypes

• Women’s Issues & Ideas – leadership and non-traditional roles

• Unique ideas and stories of transformation, change growth, art, science and more

About the Perryville Prison Complex

The Perryville Prison Complex is one of ten correctional institutions operated by the Arizona Department
of Corrections, and the only institution that houses female inmates. Perryville is in Goodyear, Arizona
which is approximately 30 miles west of downtown Phoenix. It consists of four minimum security yards,
two medium security yards and a close custody yard. The facility currently houses an average of 4,000
women.

The TEDxPerryvilleCorrectional Organizational Committee consists of local volunteers from the business
field and 20 women currently incarcerated at Perryville. The Organizational Committee will be enlisting
the volunteer support of additional incarcerated women on the actual event date. It is our goal to change
the societal mindset. The best way to do that is to invite our Sponsorship Partners and other Community
Leaders behind the curtain – so you may meet and interact with these women to witness first-hand how
brilliant, creative and professional the women at Perryville truly are – and how they will enrich our
communities upon release.

The filming of TEDxPerryvilleCorrectional will take place inside of Perryville on the San Carlos yard. All
outside visitors must to adhere to the Arizona Department of Corrections visitor policies. A full list of the
visitor policies will be provided to all guests prior to the event.

organization at the inaugural TEDxPerryvilleCorrectional event and join the movement and become our
advocate towards altering societal views regarding our incarcerated population. Connect with other local
innovators, leaders, and community representatives all while helping bringing awareness to the topics
that will be showcased at this event. Become a Change Maker by contributing to
TEDxPerryvilleCorrectional and gain visibility for your organization within the local and global TED
communities.
