ASSESSING ROAD CONNECTIVITY FROM RURAL AREAS TO THE URBAN
AREAS/SERVICE CENTERS

Background information

A large part in the world agriculture is mostly practiced, these small farmers are located to the
rural areas so the connectivity is essential to the rural areas hence provide sustainable
development to the small farmers and the rural areas in general [ CITATION Lau17 \l 1033 ]. Rural
road connectivity is very essential in the improvement of access to various places as well as
facilitate movement of people, goods and services (Olvera, et al 2002). United Nation (2019)
Found that the rural areas will gain from the improvement of road connectivity as they will make
them to be near to the urban centers, both sectors should play big parts in the contribution of the
road connectivity for the economic benefits.

Statement of the problem

Access to various areas in the many regions mainly depend on road network which connects
various areas in the regions. Based on the need of connectivity in ensuring accessibility poor or
lack of layout plans and its implementation has led to some settlements are not directly
connected. The country plays big role and efforts in the improvement of road connectivity from
the rural population to have access to the service centers. Also both government and private
sector where the mainly contributor of the operation. A part from those efforts played by both
sectors still there is poor road connectivity from rural areas to the urban areas/service centers.

Main objective

 To examine how the road connectivity is attained from the rural areas to the urban areas
or service centers.

The specific objectives

 To determine the key actors in ensuring road connectivity from the rural areas to the
urban areas.
 To explore the challenges facing road connectivity from the rural areas to the urban
areas.
 To explore the benefits attained by individual live hood from road connectivity from the
rural areas to the urban areas.

The research questions

 Who are the key actors in ensuring road connectivity from the rural areas to the urban
areas?
 What are the challenges facing road connectivity from the rural areas to the urban areas?
 What are the benefits attained to the individual live hood from road connectivity from the
rural areas to the urban areas?

Hypothesis
The study has two hypothesis to be tested which are;
 Null hypothesis
There is no relationship between road connectivity from rural areas with urban areas or service
centers.
 Alternative hypothesis
There is relationship between road connectivity from rural areas with urban areas or service
centers.
