Ethos Bridge Scholarship Program 2021

Project Bridge is a scholarship program wherein students of architecture are encouraged to
follow their dreams with no encumbrances. We are looking at extending our support to
promising students who want to take a step ahead into the future, into our future! We are looking
to build more leaders who are ready to ask the right questions and then earnestly work in the
direction of finding their answers.

As Rabindranath Tagore once said, “Age considers, Youth ventures.” Project Bridge aims at
tapping this curious nature of the youth. The intention of these scholarships is to lend a helping
hand to those students of architecture who are really passionate about the field but are
facing constraints that are obstacles in their path to emerging as well-rounded
professionals.

The monetary value of the scholarship will be contributed towards the fees due for a semester
at the college of study amounting to a maximum of Rs.25,000 and a mechanism will be worked
out to pay it directly to the respective college; but the actual value to the winning individual will
be much more. It will act as a morale booster and will help take the student’s mind away from
the constraint, helping in focusing on their future goals.

The scholarship celebrates the spirit of “Pay it forward” wherein

STUDENT RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP > ESTABLISHES SELF> GIVES SCHOLARSHIP TO
A STUDENT and the cycle continues.

We believe a helping hand when offered at the right time can make a real difference, and no
one understands it better than the winners of this scholarship! Thus, while this is not mandatory,
we urge the winners to help us keep the cycle alive and sponsor a scholarship when they have
established themselves.

Our Goal
Through this edition of Project Bridge, we intend to lend financial aid to architecture students
most affected by the Covid Pandemic and the Digital Divide brought about as a whole. We
hope to reach out to promising students who are going through a crisis due to the pandemic and
help them overcome their distress during these trying times.
We hope that Project Bridge would help in bridging the gap between what the student is and
what he/she wants to be.

Premise
The digital divide refers to the disparity in access to modern information, digital
infrastructure and communication technology between those who have it and those who
do not.
There are several forms of digital divides that affect our ability to access the
internet/technology or education because of lack of suitable electronic equipments and
infrastructure at homes. Even though access to computers and the internet is increasing
globally, the digital divide is widening at an unprecedented pace because of the several
factors, some of them listed as following:

Income Levels
The digital divide is exacerbated significantly by the wealth gap. For a large section of our
population, their family earnings are used to meet basic requirements. They consider
technology to be a luxury.

Education
Education is a critical component of bridging the digital divide. The digital divide is
expanding due to low literacy levels amongst a generation of the family.

Geographical Restrictions
Economically developed regions usually have access to a wider range of technology and
high-speed internet connections. Regions that are less developed may lack the requisite
infrastructure and equipment to set up high-speed internet links.
The digital divide is also widened by geographical restrictions. E.g In comparison to rural or
mountainous areas, urban areas are more likely to have 4G or fiber optic internet access.

Gender Divide
Studies have shown that women in the developing world face significant bias in accessing
technology and educational facilities at home; a result of entrenched socio-cultural
attitudes about the role of women in society.
Digital Literacy
Higher income families have better access to technology and the internet. Students who
attend schools with enough computers and learn the requisite digital skills have a leg up on
students who are not exposed to these technologies at a young age.
This digital divide is leaving large segments of Indians behind as the rest of the country
goes online. During the Covid-19 pandemic, we have seen the importance of reliable digital
access for many aspects of life- education, work opportunities, healthcare, day-to-day
domestic functioning and much more. At the same time, it has created economic hardships
for many while also making access to education without encumbrances more important
than ever. This scholarship is a small step to bridge this gap, removing the barriers to
learning opportunities.
