INTRODUCTION
 Digital Education refers to any type of learning that includes
using digital technology. That includes students taking
courses online, of course. But it also includes students doing
internet research or watching online videos in a classroom
and teachers using digital tools like smart boards and tablets.
Nearly any higher education course will include some type of
digital learning.
 Very often, digital learning is confused with online teaching.
Online learning is another broad term, but slightly narrower
than digital learning. It means that the majority of the
coursework will be done through the internet — through
forums, shared documents, email, chat, etc. However, it
doesn’t imply that there is no face-to-face interaction
between students and the teacher. It can include doing
coursework in a classroom or at a distance, so long as
communication is primarily online.
IMPACT OF COVID-
19 ON DIGITAL
EDUCATION
THE RISE OF ONLINE LEARNING
DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC
 The COVID-19 has resulted in schools shut all
across the world. Globally, over 1.2 billion
children are out of the classroom.
 As a result, education has changed
dramatically, with the distinctive rise of e-
learning, whereby teaching is undertaken
remotely and on digital platforms.
 Research suggests that online learning has
been shown to increase retention of
information, and take less time, meaning the
changes coronavirus have caused might be here
to stay.
This picture depicts the
number of countries where
learners shifted to online
learning during the
worldwide shutdown due to
covid-19 pandemic
GOVERNMENT POLICIES
TO PROMOTE DIGITAL
LEARNING ACROSS
INDIA
 Approach and Present Impact of Digital and Online School Education
in India:
 The Government of India is committed to ensuring learning for all, with
equity, to cover all students at all levels of education and in all
geographical locations, even in the remotest parts of the country so
that the conveniences of accessing any service through the click of a
button is no longer the luxury of the rich alone.
 PM eVidya:
 A comprehensive initiative called PM eVidya is launched as a part of the
Atma Nirbhar Bharat Programme, which unifies all efforts related to
digital/online/on-air education to enable coherent multi-mode access
to education.
 Some of the Initiatives include
 ● DIKSHA is the nation’s digital infrastructure for providing quality e-
content for school education in states/UTs: and QR coded Energized
Textbooks for all grades (one nation, one digital platform)
 ● Access through TV channels: One earmarked TV channel per class
from 1 to 12 (One class, One channel)
 ● Extensive use of Radio, Community radio, and CBSE Podcast- Shiksha
Vani
 ● Special e-content for visually and hearing impaired developed on
Digitally Accessible Information System
 (DAISY) and in sign language on NIOS website/ YouTube
ADVANTAGES OF
DIGITAL LEARNING
 With the advancement in technology the world has change drastically
and digital education has changed whole education system
worldwide.
 Due to its several advantages this has been this has been easily
adapted by the nations. Now the students are not much require to
carry heavy loads of books.
 Digital education is a tech based education which develops interest
of a student in technology. Use of smarter technology makes the
student smarter.
 Digital education improves the student’s visualization power and
gives the crystal clear clarity of a topic.
 Digital learning is also a fun which pulls up the engagement rate of
students.
 Online learning platform has allowed student to learn things properly
and deeply. Sometimes in a classroom it’s difficult for a teacher to
solve and clear every student’s doubt. But now students are having
online platform where they can solve their doubts easily.
DISADVANTAGES OF
DIGITAL LEARNING
AND ONLINE
TEACHING METHODS
 Information quality: Although with access to the internet,
students can get to access a lot of information, however,
there is a major disadvantage.. Students run the risk of
finding erroneous, false and even fraudulent content.
 School investment: Equipping a classroom with computer
resources and mobile devices is not cheap. It requires an
economic investment by the educational center not only
when buying the equipment, but also in its maintenance.
Computers, tablets, and mobiles are delicate devices and if
you add that they are going to have to go through many
hands, the risk of them breaking down grows exponentially.
 Social inequality: Although it may seem that internet
access is now common to everyone, the truth is that there
are still many families who cannot afford it. Therefore, it
can create social inequalities within the classroom and
between classmates
 They can create dependency: The use of
technology can generate mental laziness in
students. They become dependent on
technology, which can cause their learning to
slow down or obtain false or unreliable
information from websites by not having
adequate pedagogical support .
 Excessive use of online resources puts strain
on the eyes and even on the brain, which
may lead to decline in health and can cause
several disorders.
CONCLUSION
 The digitalization of education is spreading
into more and more areas around all corners
of the globe. Therefore it becomes necessary
to analyze both its advantages and
disadvantages
 Certainly, technology in education brings
great advantages for students, teachers, and
parents. However, children and young people
must obtain a correct formative orientation
that encourages them to use these tools for
their benefit, instead of interrupting their
education
