INTRODUCTION OF ONLINE EDUCATION:
 HISTORY OF ONLINE
EDUCATION
 The first correspondence courses began in the 1800s using
parcel post to reach students who couldn't be on a university
campus.

 By the early 1900s, communication technologies improved and

distance education took to the radio waves.

  In 1919 professors at the University of Wisconsin began an

amateur radio station, becoming the first licensed radio station
dedicated to educational broadcasting.

 Online learning emerged in 1982 when the

Western Behavioral Sciences Institute in La Jolla, California
opened its School of Management and Strategic Studies.
GROWTH OF ONLINE
EDUCATION
 The advent of the internet brought with it a new way of learning i.e.,
virtual education or e-learning. Though this mode of learning began with
the internet, the development was rather slow. With the onset of the
global pandemic crisis in 2020, virtual education witnessed a big jump in
terms of adoption and growth. The pandemic induced shutdown of the
education sector had to rely on the digital mode to continue operations,
which intensified the growth of educational technologies in India.
 During this transition, both students and working professionals realised the
significance of online learning and its advantages.

 Educational institutions worldwide promptly responded to the pandemic by going

online. In record time, students moved from physical spaces that provided them
with much-needed social interactions, to being seated behind a screen for hours on
end. In Lebanon, the shift to online platforms happened at a slower pace, and was
mainly driven by the academic institutions that already had digital learning
platforms in place, and the means to operate them.
BENEFITS OF ONLINE
EDUCATION
i. CONVIENIENCE OR
FLEXIBLIGTY
ii. LESS EXPENSIVE
iii. EFFICIENCY
iv. HELPFUL FOR VARIETY OF
LEARNING STYLES
v. ACCESSBILITY OF TIME AND
PLACE
 CONVINIENCE OR
 FLEXIBILITY
Online training makes education more convenient for students living in
rural areas, those with health concerns or disabilities, and those who
frequently travel or move.
 You may have to commute long distances, battle with health problems that
make it hard to go out and then online education makes it more covenient.

 LESS EXPENSIVE
 Another advantage of online learning is reduced financial costs. Online
education is far more affordable as compared to physical learning.
 This is because online learning eliminates the cost points of student
transportation, student meals, and most importantly, real estate.
  Additionally, all the course or study materials are available online, thus
creating a paperless learning environment which is more affordable, while
also being beneficial to the environment.
 EFFICIENCY
 Online learning offers teachers an efficient way to deliver lessons to students.
Online learning has a number of tools such as videos, PDFs, podcasts, and
teachers can use all these tools as part of their lesson plans.
 By extending the lesson plan beyond traditional textbooks to include online
resources, teachers are able to become more efficient educators.

 HELPFUL FOR VARIETY OF LEARNING STYLES

 Every student has a different learning journey and a different learning style.
Some students are visual learners, while some students prefer to learn
through audio. Similarly, some students thrive in the classroom, and other
students are solo learners who get distracted by large groups.
 ACCESSIBILITY OF TIME AND PLACE
 Another advantage of online education is that it allows students to
attend classes from any location of their choice.
 It also allows schools to reach out to a more extensive network of
students, instead of being restricted by geographical boundaries.
 Additionally, online lectures can be recorded, archived, and shared
for future reference. This allows students to access the learning
material at a time of their comfort.
